All eyes on Kopech to see if he can rebound from his last outing's struggles.
DSL Sox1 will have 2 opportunities to win the DSL Champioship. The suspended game, up 4-1 with 6 outs left. Can they hold on? If they squander that lead, a winner-take-all game will follow. MiLB has had live (or close to it) box scores for these DSL playoff games.

SSA - Lowell (Chad Pennington) vs Hudson Valley [TB} (TBD) 7:05 pmHa! Funny thing is that I had done this before and then caught myself, thinking that's a guy, just doesn't sound right. I have almost had Tim Couch pitching for the Sea Dogs this year. There are already too many ex-quarterbacks trying to comeback in baseball. We don't need another.

With our penalties levied on our Int'l FA signings, I assume we'll have just one DSL team next year. Obviously both DSL teams had tremendous years. Do we simply "stack" one team there (with 16/17 yr olds) & add another rookie stateside team, maybe to the Appy League?

Do we simply "stack" one team there (with 16/17 yr olds) & add another rookie stateside team, maybe to the Appy League? Adding a complex league team is a lot easier than finding an affiliate in a "real" league. I'm guessing they will only have one DSL team, but that's not certain. If someone has time, then maybe they can go through and see how old and how much experience the players on the two teams are. Might just depend how many players they want to bring stateside. With 62 DSL players, there's a lot of chaff that'll never come stateside, although half the GCL roster is former DSL players.

FWIW, MiLB now has Shawaryn listed as tonight's starter in Lowell, with Groome slated for tomorrow in Hudson Valley.

Salem rotation will be Kopech, Ball, Kent in this round.
Moore and Fernandez deactivated for the series. Leclerc activated and Jeremy Rivera promoted from Greenville to play short.

All eyes on Kopech to see if he can rebound from his last outing's struggles. I think the struggle last outing was with the weather. There seemed to be a slight drizzle at game time. Even so he got a K and PU with the bases loaded, and then the flyball/HR fluke. Tonight with better weather, I am hoping the great K-Pech (tm) can return to a more normalized profile that he's shown four times now, since he introduced his new hard curve/slider. 3+ K/BBs, and very little hard contact.

The article on Winston-Salem's website said of the grand slam: At LewisGale, hitting that scoreboard is no fluke. Trust me. He was awful in his last outing. That makes him a typical minor leaguer. Just accept it and move on.

It looks like a short scoreboard that is closer to RF than center. RF is 325 feet and center is 401. So that's a flukey 360 to me. But Kopech could be the best pitcher in the minor leagues right now. That's obviously not "typical". Even the best evaluators, like you, can miss one.

Michael Kopech 2.1IP 5H 6R 6ER 2BB 5K 0HR 23.14 playoff ERA Also 2 HBP and 3 wild pitches. So yeah, another tough outing. Definitely more good than bad after he came back, so a lot to build on into the offseason. Also, that depiction of LewisGale isn't to scale. Also, $8 for advance sale GA seats in Single A isn't great.

For those looking for a clearer perspective. There are no fluke home runs at LewisGale.

Dont worry about the minor league players in the playoffs they have mailed it in. The coaches have mailed it in, they are barely professionals and dont know how to finish strong, everyone has checked out and do not care and neither should y'all.

"On the one hand, I'm a highly touted prospect who has really improved his status after missing the first ten weeks of the season and really brought myself into the national spotlight. We've made the playoffs, and there are a ton of scouts here. Even a bunch of national baseball publication folks are here, in Salem Freaking Virginia, specifically to see me pitch. So maybe I'll try. But on the other hand, it's almost fishing season and I'm close to 58 innings on the season. I'll mail it in." EDIT: If Kopech was, in fact "checked out" it would be a far worse thing than him just being bad that day. He hasn't pitched nearly enough this season to have an excuse for losing focus in such a situation.

Also I'm seriously beginning to think you're just trolling and kind of hate myself for giving you the benefit of the doubt for so long. Chris! I don't see why you of all people would think I'm trolling. I do sincerely believe you've missed the most important (pitching) prospect to come out of the Boston farm system in a generation. I suspect you've missed it largely because he was drafted 1:33, or because you've had too much of a focus on what other evaluators said at the time of the draft, without weighing what evaluators and industry scouts have said more recently. He's obviously not a "typical" minor leaguer. If anything, he's a "typical" elite power pitcher. That's what elite power pitchers do. They run hot and cold. That's what elite power hitters do. They go through streaks where their advanced proprioception goes ever so slightly askew. His last two games have not been "horrible". He's still been able to get swings and misses at about the same rate, or induce weak contact, when the batter swings. The difference between his bad games and good games is always in the swing rate, or in the outcome of the contact. I do continue to think that the homer in question might have been 360-380 or so, and caught in some parks including Fenway. But we simply can't know because we don't have the launch angle and exit velocity. Respectfully. dj
