Anybody but Lyons is okay with me.
Jerry got better with no Orsillo and stopped clowning around so much to get a cheap laugh.
I tend to tune out announcers anyways unless they go out of my way to annoy me like Tim McCarver. I do that with Jerry Remy all the time except when he's talking about bunting or stealing bases. Didn't see Jerry play but I can tell that was his game the way he talks about it.

I think Remy was more on top of his game last year, but I think he actually had an interesting team to talk about, which hadn't been the case the prior two years. Personally, I liked Orsillo. I think they clowned around because they were probably told to by some of the higher ups. I like O'Brien's voice for radio but didn't care for him on TV as much.

Very happy Remdog extended. And I miss Orsillo.
Remy knows and loves the game and the team, and after his personal crises has reinvigorated his game in the booth. Wonderful news.

I prefer Eck as color man, but he doesn't do road trips. O'Brien is just dull. The Gold Standard was Ned Martin.

I liked the clowning around with Orsillo. Jerry's hoarse laugh makes me crack up. Also, loved it when Speir did a sabermetric talk and Lyons said, "I have no idea what you talked about but it was great." Yes, enjoyed Ned Martin (and Bob Wilson) on a high screeching signal that I had to turn my radio round and round to receive from Brooklyn. Met a likeminded woman at a sports bar in NY who found a clear signal and just kept driving back and forth on the same 10 mile stretch to get the game.

Glad to read about Jerry's new contract. I've enjoyed his banter over the years with Orsillo and now with O'Brien. Some may find his act a little overbearing, but bear in mind there is a lot of down time in baseball games. He fills the voids in an entertaining way.
His overall performance did improve in 2016 as he became more analytical in his commentary.
Go Rem Dog!

Do we not recall all the articles about how Remy influenced the system to have his son's previous sentences reduced ? I'm sure the Martel family is thrilled with this.

So your blaming a father for trying to help his son? You also what expected him to know that his son would then commit murder? In this Country I see bad parents that don't help there children as one of our biggest problems and your attacking a guy that by all accounts was a good parent. It's not Remy fault that his son was to far gone to be helped. If Remy had cut his son out of his life and then he killed someone, you would be on here saying it was his fault again because if he didn't he could have helped him.

I believe there's a limit. His son had multiple occasions of some heavy duty assault issues and pretty much got away with all of them. There has to be a point where you realize your not helping but hurting your son. He crossed that line long before someone died.

I think I'm going to step far away from this conversation and I'd advise anyone to do the same......

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
As far as broadcasting is concerned, I didn't listen to a single game that Remy was color man. I always switched to the other teams broadcast.
lol, except the White Sox, Hawk drives me nuts. For those, you can open up another instance in an incognito window, watch NESN and listen to Joe C.

It's one thing to not agree with how a parent handled an extremely difficult situation. You didn't do that. You directly compared him to a person who abused their SO. There's a pretty big difference. I will also back out of here now.

You can take it there if you want, but let's move on from that topic of conversation in this thread. Thanks.

Good news. Remy brings an authentic tone to the broadcast (as does Eck). It's too bad Orsillo had to be replaced with Mr. Milquetoast O'Brien. YAWN!

You can't be serious. That clowning around probably got Orsillo fired.

I guess I was just thinking back to that ridiculous pizza throwing incident in the stands that NESN seemed to want to milk for all that it was worth. Basically giving a free platform for boorish and immature behavior. I figured somebody at NESN wanted to get a lot of mileage out of that incident. I didn't think it was Remy who wanted to have the cameraman spend all day focusing on such foolishness. I figured it was a higher up trying to encourage that stuff. NESN has spent so much time on fluff stuff that a lot of times the game took a backseat (and I'm not even talking about the clowning around with Orsillo and Remy).

Didn't they bring in a new guy to run this stuff, and he wanted his guy (O' Brien) in there ? Irregardless, IMO, the clowning around was harmless, let's face it, baseball games can be boring to watch. I personally liked his homerun calls and play by play a lot better than O'Brien. Congrats to Remy. He has been around Boston Sports for what...near 40 years. He deserves it. '

And fwiw, while Orsillo was here, I too believed that there had been some kind of edict from higher up that they goof around more. There were a few incidents that came about organically (the pizza thrower, Remy falling off the desk while playing air guitar before the game) that were genuinely hilarious, and they just went off from there. In hindsight, it was probably something more like the two of them got some good feedback and just rolled with it.
