Looks like 4/20 for Harmon (per Garofolo)

Right in line with what I expected. Vastly under rated part of the defense.

49% of Defensive Snaps (and that was down from last year) and 28% of Special Teams. 3rd safety plays a LOT.

Browns now trying to trade Osweiler and a late round pick for an '18 3rd rounder. If they can pull that off . . . genius.

Gilberts contract details- 65 million and 40 million guarenteed. Biggest contract in Patriots history. Wow that's a lot of guaranteed money.

Yes. Cleveland's ridiculous cap space (and longer-term outlook) allows them to make a move Houston could not (eat money to get a pick for BO instead of having to give one).
Still not sure it's likely but they are in a different situation.

Still that's what 8 million, would you pay him 8 million and trade a third round pick for him? I wouldn't. He looked horrible last year, like one of worst QBs to play meaningful minutes. I can see some team gamble 8 million on him, but not also sending that third round pick.

I actually don't love the deal, but it's hard to question Belichick's free agent decisions till he gives us a reason to. We'll just have to see this one play out.

I have to believe they plan on increasing that to 60 to 70% in 2017. Has a safety ever got a bigger deal to be a non starting third safety? Not saying he's not worth the money, NFL guys think so, but as a starter. It's a ton to pay a third safety. Pat's don't usually make those type of deals.

I don't think the Patriots look at it the way you do. They certainly don't look at a $/snap basis. Harmon and his style allows them to do a lot of things that they like to do match up wise on defense. You might be right that they will play him more and perhaps use McCourty more to cover tight ends instead of Chung as Chung gets older. Pats love to load up on the 3-6m depth players as well.

If Harmon's deal is not some back loaded type deal, but just a normal deal that carries a cap hit of around 5 million. The Pat's will spend over 20 million against cap for safeties next year.

Looks like the Browns agreed with me and loaded up on the offensive line. Now cough up that first overall for Jimmy

I don't understand NFL Free Agency, the trade market, salary caps, etc. But I try to keep up with it, and reading the insight on this forum has definitely helped out.
So I just want to say thanks to everyone posting about the Pats, and please continue to do so as I'll never understand football like I do baseball.

If you're really interested, follow Miguel at @patscap and patscap.com.
His predictions don't always pan out (but that's not his goal) but he knows the Pats situation relative to the cap. Very informative follow.

What a contrast:
PATS sign one of the top free agents when nobody knew they were interested.
The Dolphins just tweeted (in what appears to be a form for all free agents) that Jabaal Sheard visited.

Well the Patriots are interested in guys and they do get circled around in rumors but yes they certainly don't tweet about it.

I know it seems unlikely as it looks as though the Butler is headed to NO, but a Butler Gilmore tandem at CB would be very very good. After the season that Tom and this set of WR's had I still just don't get the push for Cook, especially if it costs Butler. Love the fact Branch is coming back and Harmon for that matter. This has already been an eventful FA period.
