Who knows what else is coming, but to make the money work I much prefer Longhi and lesser prospects than a broader pu pu platter of Darwinzon, Buttrey, Callahan, Requena, Shepherd, etc.

Forgot Longhi is R5 eligible this winter, that was probably a decent part of the motivation.

Ty Buttrey becomes #30 Sox prospect on MLB as people shift up for Longhi's place.

We really didn't give up much for what we could get. The upside out weights what we gave up. Plus we did not give up any upper level depth. I trust our international program and I think it is one of the best.
It will be interesting to see how this strategy works out.

They traded 3 minor leaguer's for signing money. Seems like slam dunk if that's all we had to give up to get what we got. They are definitely signed? Except officially we do not know for how much?

BA has an IFA tracker, although I imagine the bonuses will be tweeted or otherwise reported before that. Flores (C) was $3.1M last I saw.

What is the reasoning behind a cinn not using their money in the pool for players?

Some teams do not have the amount of money in their budget for international signings that is allowed under the CBA. The Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs and others have plenty of money. Toronto was another "buyer" of cap space.

I'm shocked we still don't know how much money we are getting back. Seems like we usually hear quickly.

Curry just signed for $40 mil per yr just him not several latin America teenagers for could be the next gary sanchez.

I'm shocked we still don't know how much money we are getting back. Seems like we usually hear quickly. It was easier to get details in the past because there were bonus "slots" (i.e. in the Ramses Rosario trade, we traded the No. 66 slot - $327,700 - for Rosario). Now there are no slots.

From what I saw he isn't good at all. Am I wrong on this? I don't see him in our pro lineup going forward. WHy nto let another team grab him and see if eh could be effective for them?

Remember, too, that the Red Sox are one of the few teams that heavily scout Venezuela because of the dangerous situation in that country. People are, literally, starving and kidnapping is a constant threat. Note that the families of two Venezuelan players signed by the Red Sox declined to reveal the amount of the signing bonus. It is possible that arrangements are being made to enhance their personal security before that information is released. Venezuelans in the majors face a constant threat that they (when they are in Venezuela) or their family members will be kidnapped. I owned part of a seafood distribution company in Venezuela in 1992-1994. It was far different before Chavez took over. Then, it was the most stable country in South America. No longer.

I am so pumped. Nice work. Eddie, Eddie. Replenish the system. I didn't think Longhi would get far here. Plus he is rule 5.

MLBTradeRumors.com
"The Cardinals had $5.75MM and the Reds $5.25MM in available pool money for this July 2 class, though both teams are under the $300K limit since both exceeded their bonus pools in the 2016-17 signing period. It stands to reason that St. Louis and Cincinnati felt comfortable dealing their pool money since they didn’t plan on using all of it given their limited signing capabilities. It wouldn’t be a surprise if other teams facing the $300K penalty (the Astros, A’s, Cubs, Padres, Royals, Braves, Giants, Dodgers and Nationals) also deal some from their bonus pool funds in the coming weeks and months."

It's pretty odd teams under penalty can still trade their pool money. I'll gladly take it just odd

I'll gladly take it just odd Not that it mattes anymore with the new CBA, but it might have been a better rule if teams who spent over the cap took away from their future caps until it was paid off. That would have made the Moncada signing a little more interesting.

The best 16 year old defensive catcher? Or the best defensive catcher?

This had been out there for a while. He's still the #2 ranked int'l prospect. A good get for sure.
