Today there were actually 3 games going on at Fort Myers. Chris Young was there getting AB's in two of them. I saw him hit one to the fence in leftcenter that the Ray's outfielder made a nice catch on.
I spent most of my time watching the game that had most of the guys this site projects to be in Greenville this year. Ceorola, Hill, Dalbec, Chathan, Aybar, Tubbs, Baldwin, some guy I've never heard of, and Luvullo. Pitching was a lefty named Pantoja. I thought he looked pretty good, but I didn't see any radar readings.
In the second game was a lot of the people this site has projected for Salem - Madera, Chavis, Washington, Rei, Gunsolus, Rivera, Ockimey, and Nunez.
In the third game were a lot of people projected for Lowell or the Gulf Coast league. Hamilton, Acosta, Ceca, Berroa, I. Dias, and Castellanos.
I have seen Dalbec play in three or four games and he has a walk in each one of them. He looks like he is going to make pitchers throw him strikes.
I wonder how nervous some of these players are this week. There are bound to be cuts and some of them are going to see their dreams ended in the next few days. Feel bad for them as they all seem to know how lucky they are to be playing baseball.

Vic Acosta was back out there? He wasn't playing while we were down there. The fact that he was with the rookes is... bad.
Also sounds like they've made a lot of the "demotions" at this point.

Don't know if it was Vic Acosta, but the last name on the jersey was definitely Acosta. He had a hit or two while I was watching. Is it possible they were just letting him get back into it at a lower level?

Victor Acosta is the only Acosta in camp, so, yeah, it was him.
It is possible that he's just rehabbing something, true. It's still not good though, especially considering he shouldn't even have been in Lowell in 2016, never mind now.

Probably my last day watching minor league games today. And it was hot. Left early. The AAA game saw a lineup with Castillo, Marrero, Swihart, Travis, Quentin, Dominguez, Bogusevic, Witte, M. Millar, and Bethea. I know that is 10 guys -what can I say except it is still spring training. The starter was Walden, who I had never heard of before but who didn't look too bad. The radar guns I saw had him consistently at 91-93. Rameriez followed him.
In the other game Lin, Mars, Devers, Longhi (lf), DePaw, Procyshen, M. Meyers, Betts, D. Millar, and Rivera was the lineup. Kent started and got hit pretty hard. Cosart came in and was throwing 93-94 per the gun I saw. I still have hopes for him.
No sign of my guy Joyce ( Nava 2.0) Ray on either bench. I am a little worried about him. In the limited time I have seen him this spring, he hasn't hit like he did last spring and given that he is older and not a draft pick, I am not sure he is a lock to make a team, even with the success he had last year.
Does anyone know what our former closer's number was. There was a gentleman named Foulke with the number 29 on his back who was wandering around looking at the games from the area reserved for Red Sox management.

Keith Foulke began working for the organization last season.

RE: Longhi, have it on good authority that he spent the offseason retooling his swing for power (better launch angle and added a leg kick) and that he's been told he'll play outfield more this year (huzzah). However, he was sick most of the time we were down there, so we saw just one BP session from him. Longhi will be a Top 3 prospect by September, bet on it... I just realized that Longhi is 8 months YOUNGER than Chatham. That's what being drafted out of HS will do. A guy like Chatham needs to move relatively quickly if he's going to establish himself as any kind of legitimate prospect.

Twins Complex today AA game Longhi huge bomb 3R HR LCF . Which begs the question....is 'launch angle' going to be the most commonly used phrase on the boards in 2017?

Q. What do the players who have been ticketed for Lowell do between now and the season starting? I know there's extended spring training, but do they play other teams' EST players? Do they show up 7 days a week? Are there enough players for intrasquad games?

Do they show up 7 days a week? Are there enough players for intrasquad games? It's essentially the same thing as minor league spring training, except with fewer guys around. They play other teams but it's very lightly structured, much like a spring training game. Essentially for these guys, it's the same thing from the start of MiLST until the end of the year - the GCL isn't even that different really.

I didn't think Ray was playing as well this spring s he did last spring, but after the year he had last year, I thought they would at least let him have a month or two to show what he could do. I guess when yo are underrated and old for the league you played in, you have to be on all the time.
