Indians select the contract of Ryan LavarnwayWow, this will mark the 10th major league season that Lavarnway has appeared in to some capacity. That said, in five of those seasons he received fewer than 20 PAs, but I'm still amazed to see that indicator of longevity. Good for him, he's a very likable dude. Did you know he went to Yale?

I wanted to see how he was doing but that Indy league end of baseball ref doesn’t appear to be working right now
Looks like he was teammates with old friend Myles Smith

But I'm thinking of the question as "how is the old outfield doing vs. their replacements" and it seems only fair to include Franchy as an important (partial) replacement for Benintendi.
ADD: Re: manfred's comment: the totals are 3.5 bWAR for the old outfield, 3.2 bWAR for the new.

As a fan of baseball and a fan of the 2018 team, it would be sad to see them not out-perform the Red Sox outfield. The decision to move on from the B's wasn't because we thought they'd be this bad in 2021.

And Mookie is 7th in player WAR in the NL. They are not 2018, but only one is *bad.*

OK. We know where everyone of these guys is these days. Might be best to take the argument somewhere else, please, perhaps to one of the threads where this has been hashed out.

I'm really glad JBJ is starting and playing great defense on a winning team. But I do not miss the sub 100 wRC+ in most years (currently batting .165 with a 520 OPS) 😳

Jordan Weems DFA by Oakland
Konner Wade DFA by Baltimore... so they could claim Shaun Anderson

Ex-Sox on screen: In the movie “in the heights” in the song where Benny is doing the taxi dispatch, he says Big Papi is in town this weekend. In the Broadway musical of a few years ago, he says Manny Ramirez is in the town this weekend. Manny of course is actually from Washington Heights.

Logan Allen has been really struggling this year, both in AAA and in the Majors. Started the first 5 turns in the rotation for Cleveland but was sent down on April 28 with a 9.19 ERA. Came back up June 30 and gave up 7 ER in 7 innings in two starts. Walk rate is high, K rate is low, and his FIP is in line with his ERA.
He's really been fading since 2019; he was struggling in SD and AAA even before his trade to Cleveland. He's still young (just turned 24) but you gotta start worrying. I hope he can turn it around, since he was so electric in AA/AAA in 2018. TNSTAAPP

Betts still stuck under .250 and getting quite a few off days. Is he hiding a nagging injury?

Alternate version: Betts still ranks 12th in the National League in bWAR, 16th in fWAR despite a BABIP 40 points below his career standard. He's essentially having his 2017 again, where he's more "clear-cut all-star" rather than "Peak HOFer."

His BABIP is lower but it was last year too and I wonder if it might just be naturally lower now that he's playing in Dodger Stadium rather than Fenway:
| Home BABIP
| Away BABIP
| 2014 | .329 | .324 | 2015 | .337 | .283 | 2016 | .332 | .312 | 2017 | .292 | .244 | 2018 | .399 | .342 | 2019 | .328 | .290 | 2020 | .259 | .318 | 2021 | .259 | .279 |
His Away BABIPs have been all over the place, but he reliably had a high BABIP at Fenway which has fallen off a cliff since he went to the Dodgers.
(hat tip to orion for pointing out this fangraphs splits tool thingamajig!)
