Hopefully Devers really finds his power stroke because I'm already missing the longball.
It doesn't look like Bogaerts will ever hit for power with his swing being the way they changed it to a couple of years ago.

I think the Sox were at or near the bottom of the league in HRs last year thru April and finish near the top... it's early... balls don't carry, especially in Boston early in the season. Also it's too early to give up on Pablo... let it be for a few more weeks. Im pretty sure Porcello is why that game was lost not Sandoval. Other teams are hitting them! I mean you and Jerry Remy on the broadcast both forgot to explain why Orioles and Pirates and Rays players arent having problems crushing balls out of the park.

He seems like he is still trying to figure out what type of player he is trying to be. He still would love to hit for power and tries to be that type of guy. Because he knows he could really just easily be a bating title winner just being that protective babip king slap hitter all he wants.

Two of yesterday's home runs were pesky pole homers Wright was throwing BP

The Sox currently have a HR/FB of 3.8% Last year the lowest value was 8.8% by the Giants. Going back 10 years the worst was the 2009 Mets with 6.3%
This team will hit more homers. It's pretty much impossible to run that HR/FB rate for a full season The worst teams in the past 10 years hit them about 2x more frequently than the Sox right now

Sale's pace on the mound is such a joy; what was that, a 3-minute top-of-the-first?

I hate the guy and his contract but I got to say Panda has been pretty unlucky with balls in play. He's been hitting bullets just right at people.

Well I think it's safe to say that Sale has been as good, if not better, than anyone could have hoped for. Granted it's only 3 starts, but he's looked phenomenal. He struck out Kiermaier with a 96 MPH fastball to end the top of the seventh, giving him his 12th K.
Moreland has been great too. They showed during the game after his 9th double that he's the league leader, with second place tied between 10 guys at 4 a piece. He has more doubles by himself then the entire Royals roster combined.

Everybody needs to calm down and relax about Porcellos start last night! Justin Verlander just got torched for 9 ER and Kluber allowed 6 ER as well in his start this aftenoon! I believe these guys were #1,#2,#3 in CY voting in 2016.

Do you have high blood pressure? No but Chris Sale has alot of unnesscary pressure on himself to pitch a great game Because they cant produce many runs right now thats all.

The second time a starter has given up at least 6 runs this week. Needless to say, Rick isn't winning any CY young awards this year. Yeah because of one bad start. You really like to overreact. The Cy Young is never decided by April14th. Not that I believe he will win, but to declare anything as final now is freaking insane.

Porcello's not going to win the Cy Young Award though, because Chris Sale is a monster.

Thank God Sale got the win. He has deserved more. I don't want him thinking the Carmine Hose are no different than the ChiSox.
I suspect if we had the 2016 Papi, we would have a better record. As the season goes along, we are going to realize more and more how much Papi meant to scoring beyond his individual stats. I'll bet we end 100 runs and 30-40 hrs. shy of last year.

Christ it has been such a weird season. Not a lot of easy wins and it feels like every one of them took some really macho stuff, guys are struggling on offense and we're being carried by Mitch Moreland of all people and we're one game back of the MFY who have somehow won 6 in a row despite looking awful early on.

It is early in the season. We know Moreland won't carry an OPS of 1.000+ for all that long (though he does seem to like Fenway) and we know the others will start finding the gaps. I had one eye on my phone peeking at the game every once in a while. It seemed that whenever I did, there was another rocket being launched into a defender's glove, either right at them or as the result of a great play. I watched Sandoval crush two balls and he got nothing for it. That will all change, it always does.
As for Sale, this is why they got him, and he is delivering.

It's early in the season alright, and Chris Sale is everything that this team has needed. It is going to be great ride. When the stars align for this team, and they will, it is going to be a rendition of excellence I haven't seen in 40 years of watching this team.

No bad starts will tend to blow up your ERA, and sorry writers look at that. That and Chris Sale looks like he's on a mission. Yes I do freak out. I really care about this team. That's what fans do, overreact. Sorry. Edit- I don't really care if Porcello wins the Cy Young award. As long as he continues to be a solid 2/3 starter "type" in a rotation. Edit again- Someone here made a thread about how to get rid of Pablo in 8 games? I'm not the worst overreacting person in the group.

Pomeranz pitching like the last time out would be huge for the Sox.

Sandoval hasn't looked good since 2014. Porcello won the Cy Young last year.

If someone hasn't been good in over 2 years and someone else was the best at his position last year then it's understandable to question the slow start of the guy who's been bad for a long time but ridiculous to question the slow start of the guy who was great last year.
