Chavis is probably a good bet to go - I think he's the most likely to go as he carries the most value by far that Dombrowski would consider "redundant". Swihart is a possibility. Perhaps Ockimey. I'm kind of dreading the deadline. I think the only two that are better than even money to stay are Devers and Groome. Everybody else could easily get dealt. As far as Swihart, they would be selling at rock bottom. It is annoying to me to that they are back in the market for another reliever. I'd hate to see more assets dealt for the bullpen. I'd love three months of Moustakis but the price would have to be right, and it probably wont be. I doubt Travis is moved.

Some rumors here linking the Red Sox with Gray and Lowrie. I can understand Lowrie given the black hole at 3rd base, however the Gray rumor doesn't make a lot of sense given other more obvious needs combined with the cost to acquire him in terms of two three top 10 prospects plus other lower level giuys. It does concern me the references to also looking at possible trades for relievers given the recent trades for Smith and Thornburg who both were higher injury risks given their throwing motions. Hopefully whoever recommended those trades has little to no input in any trades as that person(s) has a credibility issues, www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/braves-trade-rumors-chris-archer-jose-quintana-sonny-gray.html?fv-home=true&post-id=95968

Possible relief pitcher, but it looks like they already have lots and is there one out there that is that much better than what they already have. Dave it seems is still looking at the salary cap number and is still holding true to the statement that he wants to rebuild the farm system. So what if any do you trade away to get a 3rd baseman. But, then again I never thought they would trade away Kopech.

The Gray rumors are that they have interest because they had scouts at his start. It's crap. The Sox have 17 major league scouts on their payroll. At most there are 14 non Red Sox games a night. Chances are they have a scout or scouts at every game played. It's a weak and lazy report to make. "The Red Sox have interest in Gray because they had a scout at his start". Fake News!! Ha

I think Lowrie would be a great pickup at the deadline. He wouldn't require giving too much up for and he would be a great addition to the bottom of the lineup. I would love him in the 9 spot. They should shut down Hanley now until after the AS Break. That would give him a couple of weeks-plus to focus on getting treatment and back to 100%. If he can get healthy and begin to hit like he can and they add Lowrie this lineup could take off in the 2nd half.

It makes no sense that they'd dedicate resources for a starter when ERod is on the way back.

I hope the Red Sox get a cheap replacement level to average 3b and do nothing else major this deadline. I would try to target a guy who can at least hit RHP around league average and hopefully can play multiple positions. Haven't vetted this list yet just did some quick surfing, but here are some names I'd look into. Suarez, Flores, Nunez, Freese, Y. Escobar as some of the names I haven't heard mentioned.

But if I remember correctly they started to scout Gray around the time both ERod and BJ went on the dl, before the relatively positive reports of ERod's recovery came in. Perhaps this scouting was simply due diligence in case ERod and/ BJ injuries were season-ending? At least that's how I'm interpreting our "interest " in him. Probably a "break in the case of emergency" backup plan than an actual desire by DD to trade for Gray.... at least I hope.

Saw on Twitter that we've inquired on Martin Prado. I would rather acquire someone like Lowrie as well.

My family has set up a "suicide watch" regarding how I will react to the prospects that Dave D. may send to the A's for Lowrie. I expect him to give up a prospect who will himself be steep but not ridiculous payment (Swihart?) and another that will cause me to blurt out, "OMG, why him, too?" and a third who will result in me slumping over and mumble things like, "the farm system is officially stripped, gutted, decimated..."
In fairness, there are only two guys signed before this season whose inclusion would make me ill--Devers or Groome. However, it would be painful to see more than one of Chavis, OcKimey, Chatham and/or Dalbec go. One of the latter four and a lower minors guy with upside would seem a fair but uncomfortable price. Of course, I love following prospect development, sometimes get too attached to them and realize that I do not know how the market values these players nearly as well as the Red Sox scouts and Dave do.
I have been less stressed in seasons when the Red Sox were sellers (ignoring the frustration about the games being lost by the parent club in those years).

Any way Colin Moran would be available? MLB.com has him as the Astro's #23 prospect so the price could be reasonable. I think he could a better 3rd base option than we have at the ML level. Some upside with the bat.

Nick Franklin was released by the Brewers! Maybe we can sign him to AAA as well. I'm not sure if he can hit or play 3rd though. lol
In seriousness, I don't mind us trading for a below average third basemen. I hope Brock can be back in a month.
When might Smith be back into the bullpen this year?

Rick Porcello to the Astros for Yuli Gurriel sounds like a pretty even trade. He's the exact kind of player the Sox need at third base right now. I like his upside even at the age of 33.
-Astros get a inning eater which they need -Sox get a league average producer at third base -Frees up a spot in the rotation for a Sonny Gray which the Sox have been linked to -Frees up money in the CBT to go get a bat if need be

Yuli is a pretty average MLB player so far. And his contract, while reasonable from an AAV perspective, goes through his age 37 season. Porcello is a controllable RHP starter. He won't win another Cy Young, but he's been a workhorse and his peripherals suggest he's a #3ish type. And then you've got to actually go out and get Sonny Gray. So you're swapping 20 year old Devers (is this not the implied other shoe) for the 27 year old Gray, and then an ~$20M 28 year old Porcello for a ~$9M Gurriel. I don't think the money makes enough of a difference to want to do that.

The one argument I'd make is that Gurriel hasn't had everyday at bats since entering the league. I think he's a better player than what he has shown so far. His AAV isn't ridiculous if he's producing like he is now.

Gurriel, who is 33 years old and has a 2.2% walk rate and a 100 wRC+ for Porcello? Can you share what you're smoking? You think you might be selling a tiny bit low there?

Gurriel was said to be one of the best bats to ever come out of Cuba. He has a lot of upside. He hasn't had played everyday since coming to America.

Not really and I'm not smoking anything. At worst you're trading for a league average third baseman for a average starter in Porcello. You're also saving over 10 million a year to make other moves.

They could probably get a Shelby Miller haul for Porcello in the offseason if he turns it around. That's the worst trade suggestion I've seen on this board, including all the suggestions to trade JBJ by that one guy who seems to hate him.

No one is ever getting the Shelby Miller return for that type of starter. People lost jobs over that trade. Getting a league average third baseman is exactly what the Sox need and Yuli could be better then that with everyday at bats.
