Besides the rehabbing Groome and incoming draftees, are there any intriguing prospects on the Lowell roster?

Does XST end when Lowell begins? I can't imagine how boring it is to be scrimmaging and practicing for 3 months for some of those guys.

Besides the rehabbing Groome and incoming draftees, are there any intriguing prospects on the Lowell roster? I'm going to put a plug in for Nick Duron. I don't have much on him, but I know Speier brought up his name as a guy (over a year ago), and Peter Gammons surprisingly brought up his name in the article linked in our draft thread. So that said, it seems like he has at least a little buzz internally but if I'm not mistaken, he's been limited by injuries in the past couple of seasons. I'm looking to see if he's healthy and if so, if he is being developed as a starter. Aside from that, there are also some players with noticeable flaws but at least interesting tools like Nic Hamilton (speed) and Juan Barriento (raw power).

Nice to see Groome pitching, I was beginning to wonder if they were redshirting him

I remember son reports about Jared Oliver from fall instructs, I think. His velocity was up 95-96. Scouting report says control might be an issue. Could be an interesting arm, though

"Duron started the Spinners' scrimmage with the Nashua Golden Knights yesterday." -- That would be the Nashua Silver Knights. The Golden Knights are the new Las Vegas NHL hockey team.
Weather may disrupt the Spinners' opener, unfortunately.

Silver, gold, whatever. Hey, don't knock a team whose leadoff hitter is TED WILLIAMS. (Well, THAT Ted Williams, anyway.)

Rain delay after 2.1, so Groome likely done. 1H (owns a runner at 1B) and 1BB with 3K. Nicely done.

From Chaz and Ian's Tweets (if you're on Twitter and don't follow them, shame on you), sounds lime right now he's a good FB, awesome curve kinda pitcher with a below average change. If he can develop a change and/or a cutter that would be critical.

I may be crazy, but is there any reason to try Castillo at 3B? If Pedroia has to spend a while on the DL there's going to be an IF depth problem. I know he played in the infield in the past and worked out there before signing, but it's been a while. He seems to be hitting decently enough in AAA despite the awful OBP.

A prospect is fun to watch, but trading him for a sure thing in the Majors is never a losing deal.

He's got the build why not. Spending all that money on him it's worth a shot. I think he will replace Chris Young next year and be our 4th OF but right now he's not going anywhere playing OF.

He has a .342 OBP this year, which is just fine. He doesn't walk much (and probably never will), but he also doesn't strike out much and has a high-average batted ball profile (lots of line drives and ground balls), so he'll likely hit for enough average to not be an absolute black hole OBP-wise.
