Victor Acosta promoted from Lowell to Salem. Playing LF tonight. Guessing it's similar to the Granger Studdard move. But then again they already have two outfielders on the bench.

2 innings, 4 K's, no hits, no BB's. I wish they'd give me a little more heads up on a move like this.

Has Groome gone his last 8 innings without a hit? Is that correct? I like it.

Yes, then gave up a hit in the 3rd.
Now 5 innings, 1H, 1BB, 7K's. Goosebumps!

You would expect a 23 year old with plus command and control from a major college to rise relatively fast. On the other hand, having no plus pitches makes him an unlikely major league player. Intriguing only if you care about minor league win loss records. The .198 batting average against is a strong statistic that can't be ignored. Additionally, I don't care about win loss (he has gone 3-6 in the minors btw lol) but what I do care about is that he has found a way to get hitters out at every level without an adjustment period. I think it speaks to how the Red Sox have scouted college relievers these past few years (with Taylor, Poyner, Nogosek and now Kelley). We have seen relievers throughout baseball make it off funky deliveries from relative obscurity (Brad Ziegler, Pat Neshek, Darren O'Day etc.). It will be nice to watch this kid face more advanced hitters and we frankly should just enjoy it Even AAA depth RPs are important, it reduces the chances that a desperate management might trade a Bagwell or Shaw for a RP

Would an UDFA signing bonus count again the draft pool? Or would he just be considered another minor league free agent? Same $125K as post-round 10 draftees, I believe. Thanks for confirming.

Groome 5IP 1H 1BB 7K 5/0 GO/FO 60P 38S
All 7 of the K's were swinging. The single was a bunt single.
In a nutshell, nothing left the infield.

Jay Groome's last two starts combined: 10 IP, 1H, 0R, 3 BB, 13K
Split between Lowell on rehab and now Greenville. Good stuff. Glad to see him fully healthy.

To be fair, for those that don't know, in his first start for Greenville, the game in which he was pulled and began his DL, he obviously had physical issues and all 3 inherited runners scored.

Whatever Henry Owens did to change his motion he should forget about. I was a pretty bad pitcher many years before he was born and I never walked 6 in an inning. Just dumb luck can get the ball over the plate more than he did tonight.

Lol I think even Pablo has never had more incentive to strike out ever in his life. And as someone who appreciates food very much, Pablo obliged by striking out. Very generous of him!
