I suppose in a deciding game you have to feel pretty good going with the guy who hasn't given up a run in a month.

Requena vs the Riverdogs this year: 5 G (2 starts), 15.1 IP, 2 ER, 7 Ks, and 7 BBs. Not the same team he's pitched against in the past, but his last 2 starts against them were 7-30 and 8-04. 20 ground ball outs vs 13 fly ball puts over those two games

Regarding Requena, what is his ceiling? He's been pitching well for Greenville. Does he start next season in Salem? Does he have a chance to be a real prospect?

Netzer swings hard, Baldwin with a shot to RC that I thought might split the OF's. RF Gilliam made a nice play

0-0 mid 5 in Greenville, Charleston nearly pushed across a run in the 4th after a hit and an error. A liner back to the box resulted in a bang bang play at the plate.
The drive are still looking for there 1st hit

Castellanos is really struggling in LF tonight, already 1 error could have just had a second but it was ruled a double

Castellanos is really struggling in LF tonight, already 1 error could have just had a second but it was ruled a double Not surprised to hear that. The scouting report on him is not kind to his range or fielding ability. On the other hand, he's played a total of how many games in the outfield. Glass half full view: he just needs time to adjust and get used to things. I'm going to be an eternal optimist no matter what.

The Drive solved Nick Green in the bottom of the 6th pushing across 2 runs and having another runner cut down at home plate.
Netzer can really handle the bat, an RBI single to RC after a lengthy at bat and at least a 1/2 dozen, 2 strike foul balls

Regarding Requena, what is his ceiling? He's been pitching well for Greenville. Does he start next season in Salem? Does he have a chance to be a real prospect? Pretty insane stats for a 20 year old in Greenville. I'm not implying that he's young for the league, just that he's not old.

After Charleston got the 1st 2 on to start the top of the 8th Greenville turned to Joan Martinez. He's electric at 96-97. He gets them out of it. 2-0 Drive bottom 8

Lotta those guys have weaker K numbers etc, but it's insane that with Hart/Boyd/Shawaryn/Anderson then Mata/Requena/Hernandez/Groome the Drive have had two full rotations performing at a high level. Are the hitters in the SAL all as bad as the Drive's?

My hatred of New York is so real that it even makes me smile that the Sox A ball team is going to beat the Yankees A ball team in the playoffs.

Greenville must have had good infield defense this year.

Regarding Requena, what is his ceiling? He's been pitching well for Greenville. Does he start next season in Salem? Does he have a chance to be a real prospect? My brief opinions on some of this: To me, Requena is obviously not a Mata/Darwinzon level prospect but he's also more than a Daniel Gonzalez/Denyi Reyes type of guy as well. He's climbed to #51 in the rankings here and is ranked #29 over at MLB Pipeline. They make note of a FB that sits around 90, so while he lacks plus velocity, he's also not sitting in the mid 80s topping out in the high 80s like Gonzalez/Reyes. Perhaps more importantly, there is also note of sink on his FB and this tends to align with the impressive 57.5 GB% this year (55.4% in the GCL last year). Throw in a couple of decent secondaries (curve, change) at this level of development, and I'd say his reasonable ceiling is something of a backend starter with a more realistic projection an an up-and-down guy. So depending on what you mean by 'real prospect', yes I think he could continue to climb and be a top 20 prospect in the system, but no, his ceiling would not allow for him to be, say a Top 100 MLB prospect overall.

I didn't have my gun with me and wasn't really studying him but the stadium gun mostly read 89-91. He pounds the zone with a 3 pitch mix. No real put away pitch though. Both secondaries we're about average. Fastball command looks to be a strength.
