The missed calls are no excuse. JBJ just sucks. That strike 3 was close enough that he should have been swinging. God, what a frustrating team. What a frustrating sport. That's complete BS. You expand the strike zone that much and you'll be a terrible hitter. You force the pitcher to throw pitches you can hit. There isn't anything a batter can do about a bad ump except be a bad hitter.

I am very against using Chris Sale next. Situation does not call for it in my eyes.

You don't swing at a pitch that's off the plate. If JBJ swings and hits a weak squibbler, we yell at him for not being patient and being overaggressive and etc. etc. The hitters were showing good discipline on pitches that were balls. That's on the terrible umpire. Probably not, though. Because the weak dribbler would have scored a run. What you can't have there is an unproductive out. This game feels very winnable. We're getting baserunners, just need the well-timed gapper or wall ball.

i just wonder if our guys weren't protecting with 2 strikes enough. I hate feeling that.

Well, the good news - it is only 2-1, we've only batted twice, and Morton is up to 47 pitches. Got to keep grinding (that is how our team wins, anyway). And Porcello seems to have found the zone.
Put the last inning behind and go and get em. again.

The biggest miracle in 2004 was that Roberts was called safe.

The distance between the 2nd and 3rd our seems like a mile today for Porcello.

We better bat around and knock Morton out this inning. If he settles back in, that's a huge waste.

And really - both those pitches called balls on Gonzalez in this inning were strikes on the Sox last inning. Brutal BS.

On the bright side, this is a timely preview of the team's next manager.

The umpire's inability to set the strikezone has at least two significant results to the detriment of the batter. It greatly increases the probability of a negative hitting outcome, and it seriously affects the batters understanding of what the plate dimensions are for that umpire. You can blame Bradley all you want but it didn't do much for Perdoia either.

At very least, like tennis give each dean certain number of challenges for balls and strikes.

On the bright side, this is a timely preview of the team's next manager. Yup, Alex Cora looking good in the Astros’ dugout. :-)

I don't know. I can see that point. You have to swing at pitches outside the strike zone sometimes. Pick half of the plate to protect. It is patently unfair the the ump to give both sides, yes, but that is a different point altogether

I didn't think we'd be sitting with Porcello through 3 innings, the way he started....at only 70 pitches. So - time to hit Morton - hard.
