Jeremy Hill looks like he'll take every advantage of Michel being out. I've heard he has had serious fumbling problems in the past. We will see if he can at least do the job while Michel is out.

Man I didn't think I'd see that day when Brady restructures to get more upfront cash, yet doesn't change his cap number this year. Actually increases it next year, while also getting 5 million more in incentives.
That's about the opposite of what I thought he would be doing at this point in his career.

They probably had a previous verbal agreement in place from a prior restructure. That would be my guess.

Wonder if this Bentley kid is going to be legit. Having another good linebacker would be massive.

Interesting first drive in the preseason by the Patriots. James White was lined up as a WR and running back throughout the drive.
They're going to have to do this all year with this crap WR core.
Jacob Hollister seeing first team reps too.

Isiah Wynn being carted off the field. Both first round picks might not make make it out of training camp healthy.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of anything preseason wise, but some nickel corner named Crossen for the Patriots made 3 Pass Interference penalties on defense.
Jesus, that's horrible. BB has stuck with him during first team reps too.

BB has stuck with him during first team reps too. He was their 7th round pick. He’s got a ton of speed and some good ability but he’s raw. He’d be great for the practice squad. Don’t read anything into him on the first team. Duke Dawson and Jon Jones weren’t playing. They are our top nickel corners and Crosson is a great prospect to have. Those 3 pass interference penalties are probably good so we can get him on to the practice squad.

Isiah Wynn being carted off the field. Both first round picks might not make make it out of training camp healthy. Probably tore his Achilles. Seemed like nothing happened to him on the play. It was weird. That means it’s either a cramp (he just got in) or something major that will end his season. (That’s not really what it means but it’s how I feel those things go)

Wynn being out for the season would really suck!! Yes yea it would. If he could be the starter at right tackle and live up to his billing, the offensive line could be awesome. They kind of need the offensive line to be great considering the receiving core.

Here are my observations from the first half (don’t care about the second half):
1. Trent Brown is an upgrade over Solder at left tackle (if the Pats can sneak a preseason extension in that would be amazing).
2. White looks good and will probably run the ball more and more effectively than he ever has.
3. Jacob Hollister can play a little. He’s going to have to step up as a receiver considering the receiving corps.
4. Patterson will be a factor in the passing game, but not a reliable down the field threat. Guy has moves, McDaniels will get creative to get him ball in space.
5. Dorsett is blah
6. Hogan is Meh (he’s someone you love has a 4th receiver, are ok with as a 3rd, don’t like as a 2 and it’s sad when he’s your 1). Right now he’s our 1 for first 4 weeks then our 2 after that... not good
7. Bentley is not only making the team, he might start and be our second best LB (not saying a ton). Guy isn’t slow like the scouting reports say he was.
8. Watching Clayborn destroy the line of scrimmage and be in the backfield was a welcome sight. It’s a reminder of how damn good he can be as a pass rusher. BUT consistency has always been his issue so we can’t forget he’s apt to disappear for 10 weeks.
9. Crosson needs time on the practice squad, which is a blessing in disguise because this team actually has too many talented corners to keep them all. If he played as well as he had been practicing, they’d lose him so his struggles helps their depth and lets them develop him. Oddly good news he had the in your face struggles, because he also showed his talent on numerous occasions. Just needs time to develop.

BUT consistency has always been his issue so we can’t forget he’s apt to disappear for 10 weeks. I actually think it'll be nice to have a DE who dominates in stretches, since I feel like Patriots D-line and most of the players fall into "consistnetly good but never great." In the worst playoff games the last few years the DL seems to move the passer off his spots but like Foles in the SB the QB is comfortably uncomfortable and it doesn't change the game. Hoping Clayborn can turn a few of those near-miss plays.

Yeah my only take away is that the D-Line could actually be a strength and maybe even one of the bests in football if they can put it all together. Between Clayborn, Wise Jr, Brown, Tre Flowers (when he gets healthy), and the linebackers blitzing, there could be a ton of sacks by the Patriots this year.

At least Wynn will be ready come 2019, when Brown might no longer be around. Now they really need Brown and Cannon to stay healthy.
I’m more worried about Michel long term. Not sure he ever has a real impact at the NFL level.
I knew Bentley was gonna be a contributor for New England. Overpaying for 3 down linebackers is strange to me, especially when you can just throw a third safety in coverage on passing downs. I’d rather have Chung covering a tight end than Telvin Smith etc.

It sucks about Wynn, but luckily tackle was deep still leaving Waddle and Tobin guys that have started before as backups.
Didn't watch the game, but Christian Sam and Bentley both seem to have had a good game and both had a PD. Add that to the report that Sam can actually cover James White in the open field in practice and LBer depth might be OK. How did he look?
You don't pay a LBer just to play 3rd downs, you are in nickel coverage in some games like 80% of the time. Also Hightower can't stay healthy, which meant a guy like Roberts was playing passing downs last year. You can't play all safties.
A guy catching my eye is Trent Harris undrafted DE out of Miami. He's small for a DE, but he's made plays in two straight games now. How did he look? From a depth point of view he is huge in my eyes.
Crosson might have made penalties, but he also had 9 tackles and Bill loves CBs like that. Almost have to think he has no chance to make the practice squad. Every year teams love claiming our late draft picks and it sucks. Practice squad guys should be like the two way contracts in the NBA, so you don't lose guys that are recent draft picks

Can't speak for Harris, but Sam looked good. He played in the second unit in the 3rd quarter, so it's hard to tell how his talent plays up against first team players.

He only played in the second half and had 7 tackles? Looking at the box score it looks like the Eagles played the starters for like two series or a quarter.

Sam didn’t jump out as anything special to me but I didn’t watch the entire second half. I think he had a pick but it was on a play where he was behind in coverage and the receiver missed the ball and it hit his face mask and bounced backwards into Sams hands.
He doesn’t seem nearly as fast and fluid as Bentley.
