I'm trying to keep my cuckoo in the clock with all the initial anticipation of spring training and all the new prospects looking for breakouts. But after I saw this video which is 2 years ago in the Under Armour game in Wrigley Field I even got more excited and crazy over Brannen just says I did with Quiroz. As you see I can't wait to actually see real baseball.

True. But remember you can make seven outs in every 10 at-bats and do that through a 10-year career and you're in the Hall of Fame because you're a lifetime .300 hitter

I like Brannen a lot. Pretty good eye, some pop, fastest guy in the draft last year by 60y (electronic timed on the fly at 6.18, which is outstanding).
I think Brannen is a good bet for a pop-up strong season, and an outside shot at jumping into the top 100. He certainly has the tools to develop into an above-average CF, who could go, say, .280/.350/.450 in his better seasons with 30 steals and above-average defense. He’s got the arm for RF I believe, and what amounts to 70 speed (although a 60 fly isn’t as good as, say, a 30y from a dead stop would be to judge “game speed.”)
Of last year’s draftees, he’s the one I’m highest in relative to where they picked him. I think his hit tool may have been a little underrated, but that’s nitpicking. He, Darwinzon Hernandez, Bryan Mata, Nick Duron, and maybe CJ Chatham are guys I’m expecting to up their stock significantly this summer. I’d like to see Shawaryn take another step too, a la Beeks last year.

I got height when I saw and hit the triple at Wrigley the opposite field power with speed and his size I was impressed. As far as the other players you mention Hernandez looks impressive from the videos that I have seen but I think he's definitely bigger than the 185 lb that's posted.

Yeah, Brannen seems to me to have wiry power a la Nomar or Eric Davis (though I’m absolutely not predicting anything close to 30 HR). And I agree, Darwinzon’s LEGS might be 185. He’s got what they call a “workhorse” lower half.

This thread's life depends how well Brannen develops , how much another team values him and how DD values the other player he wants acquire. I hope he's MLB ready before JBJ becomes free agent in 3 years .JBJ's agent; Scott Boras.

Brannen is probably the most highly regarded high school outfielder we’ve drafted in awhile. I think his development depends a lot on his physical maturation and how much power he can add to his game.

I think his development depends a lot on his physical maturation and how much power he can add to his game. You're right Brannen was ranked 54th in Baseball America rankings of the 2017 draft. In 2015 Sox drafted Tate Matheny in the fourth round he was ranked 107 in Baseball America . In 2011 in a second round Red Sox took HS outfielder Williams jerez in the second round and he was ranked 53rd by Baseball America. Jerez is now a left-handed reliever at Triple-A Pawtucket. But it seems that the Red Sox mostly draft College outfielders such as Benintendi Bradley.

Yesterday Jim Callis released his 2018 Red Sox Top 30 Prospects. Callis has Brannen ranked at #6 . Brannen was voted fastest runner and best defensive tool in the system. Callis goes on to call him the Best Athlete . Can only hope he develops some power to his game to go along with his speed .I think with his speed he could turn singles to doubles , doubles to triples and if he hits one out into the triangle , he could run forever. Here are Brannen's Scouting Grades; (20-80) Hit 50 / Power 45 /Run 70 / Arm 50 / Field 60 / Overall 50 Callis's Article and Rankings; www.mlb.com/news/red-soxs-2018-preseason-top-30-prospects-list/c-266681700?tid=151437456

45 power for Brannen seems generous. Even with his speed, he had just 3 XBH in 181 PAs last year, posting just an .028 ISOp. Maybe he can grow into 45 power, and maybe he was being told or otherwise was just not super aggressive, at the plate or on the basepaths, in the GCL (note that his lone triple came after he moved up to Lowell and he took a ton of walks in the GCL), but seeing how he grows into any ability to drive the ball will be a big thing for me to watch on Brannen this year.

Question. Did the SoxProspect staff get a chance to see Brannen in a game situation after being drafted. seeing he only played in 42 games after being drafted. I'm real interested to hear. He seems to have the same build as Benintendi though he's 3in taller. And Benintendi produces some power.

We'd normally have seen him at Instructs, but of course, that didn't happen this year. Not sure where you're getting that they have the same build. Benintendi is 5-9, 180 in the Sox media guide and Brannen is 6-0, 170 on MILB.com. Benintendi is 10 pounds heavier while being 3 inches shorter, as you state.

OK, but even if those were the numbers, I'd say being 3 inches taller and only 5 pounds heavier would mean that they are not the same build.

Right. I agree they don't seem like great physical comps. I'd say that Benintendi is obviously pretty short by baseball standards, but is compact with a strong upper body. He's got those Popeye forearms you know? The pics of Brannen that I've seen show a lankier frame, albeit with room to add strength. I think his physical development will be important to monitor in terms of him reaching his ceiling.

Jacoby Ellsbury is a pretty common comparison for Brannen’s game and he’s 6-1, 195 lbs.
