Hanley providing some nice at bats lately. I have to give him a lot of credit.

This is looking a little too similar to 2017, though it’s still very early. Shaky bullpen outside of Kimbrel, holes in the lineup, no power. Benny and Martinez need to get it going. Just so we're all straight here, we're talking about the bullpen has allowed one run on three hits in seven innings, walking four and striking out nine, right? I know opening day sucked, but they've given up four runs in 19 innings since, with two of those runs coming in garbage time yesterday.

Hanley likes Miami. Time for the Pen to grind this out in the 13th.

I'm getting greedy here but 0-6 for Xander after that hot start feels like an anticlimax lol.

But that was good enough for 93 wins and a division title. (not being snarky with you) That’s fair. To be clear, I never doubted the 2017 team as a playoff team, and I don’t doubt this year’s version as a playoff team either. But I never really felt like last year’s team was “World Series” good if that makes sense. I guess I’m in “World Series or bust” mode because Dombrowski seems to be prioritizing these next couple of years, rightfully so perhaps.

If my calculations are correct going into the game the bullpen had walked 9 in 14 innings. That seems like it will be a big problem if it continues. They will pay for it against better teams.

Hanley’s got a few XBHs and two steals this year, and he’s come up big a couple of times. OPSing .855. Solid defense so far. Go on and vest that option, big fella.

Also, this team is so much more fun when Hanley is a nasty hitter.

Excellent Road trip. Head home for the opener in great position. Gutsy wins in close games. Go Sox !!

Stole one there, awesome job and great poise. Cora doing the business thus far.

Why does Hanley show off his chest after a win? Also why does NESN keep showing it?

Kelly and Barnes are really the only ones with elevated walk totals - and two games (one for each) led to most of that.

Team seems to be playing looser, having more fun under Cora already (and it is early days of course - it will take time to completely un-Farrell). Only thing I would like to see is for them to stop running into outs! The bats will heat up. Feeling good!

Oh - and Sale - 1 run in 5 innings - this has to be a historic start to a Sox season with such stingy starting pitching. Wow - microscopic ERAs

Certainly...but that has also been their history, from what i remember. Hoping they can cut those down this year, would go a long way to providing me with agita relief.

I am not completely sold on either Barnes or Kelly (or Hembree, for that matter). I think the bullpen will be a work in progress and be impacted by injuries...and healings!

I have to say, if the Red Sox maintain a 2.21 staff ERA I really like their chances.

I wrote a lot about Hembree somewhere on here pre-season; short story is, there’re some fairly compelling arguments that his improving performance is real. Last thing to beat for him is his hard-hit rate, but he had a SwStr rate of 14% last year, which is terrific. If he can revive and actually use the CB as a legit third pitch, and get some more weak contact/whiffs, he’s their 8th inning guy. He’s not the same pitcher he was two years ago.
