Another ominous start for Severino. If he is breaking down that would leave the Yankees without an ace #1 type.

Seventh inning in the Bronx. Royals up but shaky.

Robertson just gave up a 3R HR, Royals up 9-5 bottom of the 8th.
Neil Walker (substitute) in the outfield for the first time in his career.

Well now it's official that the Yankees lost, so if we win tonight we'll pull a bit further regardless of what happens in their second game.

Yankees lost the first half of a DH and are now 5 1/2 out.

It is too early for must wins....but considering our opponent and the MFY loss, it feels pretty much like a must win (new category - would definitely be sweet to win?)

To anyone who thinks we need to trade for a reliever, may I remind you of the following; Addison Reed Andrew Bailey Eric Gagné Joel Hanrahan Mark Melançon Matt Thornton Scott Sauerbeck Getting a glove-first infielder is the easiest way to improve this team. Last two bullpen arms we traded for at deadline was Reed who gave us .6 bwar and Ziegler who gave us .9 bwar. All the reason to get a reliever. We for sure can use an upgrade defensively at 2B, but we also need an upgrade offensively. Dozier or Kinsler please and thank you.

In my opinion the Sox have internal options in the bullpen which place trading for a bullpen arm on the back burner. I think they need to go at least two more weeks to see what Brasier and Thornburg can do. At 2B they have to wait on Phillips.

Seventh inning in the Bronx. Royals up but shaky. Severino last 4 starts 19.1 IP 20R/19ER. 33H including 7HR 19K / 4BB Yeah, but ERA can be misleading.
.384 / .418 / .686 allowed in 91 PA.
OK, so maybe not.
The good news for the Yankees, however, is that he stopped a declining trend. His game scores are 48, 33, 27, and ... 27! (But 26 if you count HBP as a walk).
When they traded for Happ, they had the choice of pitching him and then Severino, both on 5 days rest, or pitching Severino on his regular turn and then Happ on 6 days. I was so certain that they'd give Severino an extra day after his recent struggles that I posted their rotation for the upcoming series with that assumption.
Now, if you look at Happ's career splits, he's been freakishly better on 6 days rest (13 GS, 3.26 ERA) than on 5 (51 GS, 4.56). However, that 6 days record begins with 25 scoreless innings in three starts in 2009 (including 2 shutouts) -- since then he a 4.60 ERA.
Severino's been better on 5 than 4, and furthermore he's the guy you have to get going.
So, thank you, Aaron Boone, for this decision.

Yanks down 6-4, two out, bases loaded with MFY & Stanton at the plate. John Sterling on the call: "The pitch ... it's hit to right field, IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT. IS. ... caught. Stanton hit it well, a line drive that just wasn't high enough to get out." Umm, didn't you just a second earlier claim "it is high"? Wondering how many MFY fans got duped by the bogus call. Surely they're used to it by now. "Well, Susan ..." Lol, John Sterling (who also butchered calling Larry Bird's 63 point game).

Right now the Yankees are doing everything wrong. As a Sox fan I am delighted to see Boone talking about Judge being back in three weeks. Let's hope he is because that would be the worst decision the Yankees could make.

His presence kept worse pitchers from coming into high leverage situations and blowing more games than he did. I also forgot to mention the acquisition of Rick Augilera in 1995 for Frankie Rodriguez. Aguilera solidified the bullpen as the team won the East and Frankie Rodriguez never really accomplished much.

We don't need a stud, nor do I want to pay the price to get one. We could use another solid, battle tested reliever though.

Why on Earth would Devers be bunting there with a righty on the mound and Nunez on deck and the runner not running ?

Even as a Red Sox fan, Morrison bunting in that situation has me seething. Such a pathetic play.

It was well hit though and the bases were loaded. The Royals pen is really really bad. They were walking a tightrope until Hammels came in. They almost blew a 7-0 lead.

LOL, you're confused here. Twins VP of baseball ops is with the team. They interviewed him. Said he expects the trading period to remain active. Talked about having received mostly low minors players but were particularly happy about the scouting on the AA pitcher, thinks they can add a pitch and potentially make him a top of the rotation starter or at minimum a power reliever. Also mentioned that the Twins would be interested in signing guys traded that will be free agents.

I was reacting to how how many bad pitches Porcello was throwing in the inning where he gave up 3 runs.
