Just curious, do people say Woosta or Wista. I used to say Wista so the WooSox makes no sense to me.

I have definitely heard folks at WPI call Worcester "The Woo" and Assumption refers to it in their page about the city; I'm not sure how widespread the nickname is but people in Boston tend to think of Worcester as being roughly as far away as Albany so it's only marginally above the threshold of awareness in the first place where I live. When I say "Worcester" the first syllable is the same way I say "woof." Actually if you google "pronunciation of Worcester" and make sure the American pronunciation is selected the animated face says it the way I do ( wu-str).

Just curious, do people say Woosta or Wista. I used to say Wista so the WooSox makes no sense to me. Lived in the area my entire life. It's pronounced the same way you pronounce Wousie, like there's a U instead of the R. So to answer your question, a combination of both lol. Also, it's not even close to hardest town to pronounce in the area. Try Leceister or Leominster. Blame England and their middle English for all these confusing names. All these cities and towns were found in the 1600 and 1700's.

The great Miss Worcester Diner is Miss Woo’s as a nickname. Was there a lot in 1977-81, once four years ago.

That mascot standing in front of a semi-completed concrete structure is 100% nightmare fuel out of a 1970's state fair.

Maybe Smiley Ball just needs some therapy or a support group. Here's what Otto the Orange looked like in 1980. It gets better Smiley Ball, but you need to take initiative over whatever it is that's happening there.

Out of town people pronounce it Wor-chester. Like Leo Min ster In Virginia there is a city called Staunton. It's pronounced Stanton. So, Taunton would be Tanton if it were in VA. There is a city in Ohio called Wooster.

Having grown up in Wooster, OH, I've always found the pronunciation of Worchester, MA unsettling.
