I have come to say good bye to the forum. I just have a hard time not posting so much and don't want to break the rules or upset people. Don't feel bad about me leaving, it's best for the forum. This isn't my place to post because I love to talk about baseball and I might love to talk about it too much. So take care all and go Sox all.

I might not agree with some of your viewpoints but this is a game thread, I don't think anyone should be bothered by your posts.

This isn't my place to post because I love to talk about baseball and I might love to talk about it too much. So take care all and go Sox all. FWIW, I don't see how it's best for the forum if you stop posting here. I guess the best you can do is follow the cues of the moderators the best you can, but at the end of the day it's not a bad thing to love talking about baseball so much. There are some "regulars" here and I'm probably one and there are times that I post a bit too often. Sometimes it's kind of therapeutic in a way. My son's just getting into baseball and my wife isn't a fan by any stretch of the imagination and I work mainly with females (most uninterested in baseball), so it's good to talk with people who are passionate about baseball like you are and a lot of people here are. At the end of the day you have to do what's best for you, but I don't think you're doing anybody here any favors by ceasing to post here. You're not always going to get agreements and as long as it doesn't have that made for TV hot take feel to it, there's nothing wrong with having differences of opinions. And if you post and start realizing that you're repeating yourself (a tough habit I'm guilty of from time to time) then step away for a little bit, because the conversation isn't moving along, but that doesn't mean that your part of the conversation has to end. Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I very much enjoy diverse opinions about baseball and I think the mods are fantastic at keeping the discussion civil, focused and at a high level. Actually it’s the disagreements in the various threads that make me think more deeply and more substantively about the Red Sox.

Pedro are the Mods warning you again? Tons of people make a lot of posts on here! I just have to say I think the whole too many posts on the trade thing was a total overreaction!

Maybe "too many posts" isn't really what's driving this. This sounds like yet another phony front.

In the interests of transparency, here is the full PM that I sent to pedrofanforever earlier today: My intention is certainly not to push pedrofanforever off the forums. Just like most of you, I appreciate the enthusiasm and energy. But we have ground rules here, and the volume and repetitiveness has been and was continuing to be an issue. If he could channel his energy into 20 good posts a day as opposed to 50+ scattershot, repetitive ones, I'd be thrilled, and that's all we really want.

I feel like there is a difference between the game threads and the other threads. I think that pedrofanforever is close to the perfect game thread poster, but not so much for the other threads. I feel like a lot of his posts are observational and reactionary, which is reasonable for a game thread, but not necessarily desirable for lengthy chains of analysis.

This is a good and fair observation. If the posting volume was limited to the gameday thread, it would be a lot less of an issue.

All but 5 of those posts in 24 hours were in the game day thread, just saying!

I hope you stick around, but I’d understand why you don’t if you keep getting talked to; I’m sure it sucks the fun out of things for you. You’re a good guy with good intentions that never belittles anyone, which is more than I can say for

You do you pedrofan. If you want to stick around that would be awesome, you're a great dude and don't take the mods too harshly as they are also pretty solid guys. If it's not feeling fun lately with these issues, you know you can always come back after some time off. Celtics basketball is just right around the corner and I really hope you're back by then.

I just think the larger issue on this site needs to be fixed! Yes the Mods can be great most of the time, but they tend to single out people they don't like and get on a power trip! The ground rules say the game thread is different and heck even Jmei said that wouldn't be an issue, while overlooking the fact that Pedro only made 5 posts in 24 hours that weren't in the game day thread. So what is the issue?? If he made too many posts in the Paw Sox moving thread OK just tell him that. At the sametime he's from Worcester and was excited. Isn't that what we want? Die hard red sox fans?
There's a current thread were one poster is dominating the thread. Not going to name him, but if that's not allowed I'm so highly confused why he is allowed to do it. I don't have an issue with it, its a good fun debate it just seems like the rules are only enforced on people that aren't liked. Pedro wasn't Deepjohn. I like a lot of us might not have always agreed with him, but we all loved his passion for Boston Sports and the Red Sox!

I've been warned many times for the same types of things and think I finally have it down to what they want the most (most of the time). They don't want arguments that go on and on and on in every thread between the same people. Myself, umass and pedrofan have been guilty of this especially. I think umass and I finally got to the point where we let things go most of the time. Pedrofan had gotten better as well but habits die hard. But I know that when you have multiple people with that same argumentative personality it gets exponentially worse and no one else even wants to join in the conversation.
It's just that you have to realize sometimes that you can't win every argument on the internet, even when you're right. Took me about 20 years to figure that out.
I don't mind lots of posts (obviously), but I do try to edit mine if I'm talking to myself so I can put 4-5 thoughts in one post instead of in 4-5 posts.
Also, I consider the gameday thread to be more like a chat room than a message board. That's where most of my posts go.

Well said, JimEd! For full transparency, here is what happened. Over the last few years, we've received feedback from members and potential members about the forum devolving into a difficult place to post and read, as some members have dominated/overtaken the conversation and just won't let certain arguments go. We have private conversations with members about this all the time, and 99% of the time the message gets across. The mods and the staff discuss this behind the scenes based on what's best for the Forum in general. I promise you, there are no hidden agendas or power trips on behalf of the mods, so please relax with the conspiracy theories. We're trying to make this a place that is hospitable to vets, welcoming to new members, and informative to people who just want to read.
We received increasing feedback through July and August on this same issue. As one example of recent feedback, I heard, "As somebody who doesn't post all that often, the forum is no longer enjoyable to read to me, It's just the same people rehashing the same thing over and over again, not willing to give an inch on their positions. It's frustrating."
As far as Pedro goes, I hate to air this publicly, but that's what this has become given the direction of the discussion. Pedro has been posting in extremely high volumes for several months, often posting the same point repetitively. He's averaged roughly 30 to 40 posts per day. In our estimation, nobody else on the forum posts even a third of that amount on average. In other words, on average he posts about three times as much as the second highest poster on the forum (maybe more, we haven't gone back to do the exact math). Because of that, a mod politely messaged him to pump the brakes a bit. All of the staff agreed it was the best thing to do. We talked about it before the message was sent. We did not want Pedro to leave. We did not ask him to leave. We told him we appreciated his enthusiasm. It was politely suggested that maybe he should slow down a bit with the volume and repetitiveness. We have made the same request several times before. He is welcome back whenever he wants, he is a valued member of the community. That said, if he opts to return, our collective request as a staff will still be that maybe he pumps the brakes a bit.
Thanks for posting and reading everyone. As I've said, we're just trying to do our best to make this an enjoyable place for everyone to post and read.
Mike

As far as I can see, Pedro was doing exactly that. I haven't seen him posting repetitive posts in other topics since the trade thread before the deadline. The fact that he only had 5 posts outside of the game threads should have clued the moderators to that.
He was clearly adding more to the game threads than the all the moderators combined.
If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck and tastes like a duck it probably is a duck. If you make a case that defies easily see-able logic, you probably don't have much of a case.
Perhaps Dunne and Norm would be better suited to moderate the game threads rather than jmei and Chris.

To be clear, while we are looser in moderating the gameday threads, the ground rules still apply there.
