Champs....have a good vacation. By the time you get back we'll be division champs and well on our way to our 4th World series this millenium!! Night all. Well get em tomorrow Thx jerry. I'll watch the game unless I get annoyed, but now I'll be watching it with intensity and trying not be really annoyed if they get themselves swept. I really wanted them to win yesterday so I could watch the game Thursday night on vacation without caring if they win or lose. Calm SoxChamps is a better guy to watch a game with than Intense SoxChamps who really, really hates losing to the Yankees, especially when they could party there with obnoxious NYers looking on. Partying in Cleveland is nice, but not the same, and the possibility of backing in is there which kind of sucks, as opposed to celebrating on the field in victory. 2016 was disappointing for that reason. The one day they could party was a bummer and there were no post-season celebrations. Those things aren't guaranteed.

And I would prefer to take my chances with the A's in the post-season. They're a great team but that starting pitching is terrible, they don't have Manaea, and although their bullpen has been good, I'll take my chances with the Sox going up against Rodney or Familia, especially with the HFA. The MFY play a series of 4 in Tampa before coming to Boston while the A's play some crappy teams (Padres, LAAA) it will be a pleasure sending them to the Bay area. It would help send NY to Oakland if you know, the Sox actually win some games against NY instead of relying on TB and crappy teams for Oakland to play. Plus I really want that last series with NY to be 100% meaningless for the Sox. It should be by then, so I wouldn't count on the Sox to beat NY that weekend. And if the Sox can somehow win tomorrow it won't matter much to me what the Sox do at Fenway next week - as long as they top 105 wins, which they should do.

Oh well, at least the Yankees made Severino throw 109 pitches for no good reason.

I've learned 4 things from this series-
-Workman should not be in high leverage -Kelly is not good enough for the playoff roster -Eovaldi is really effective against the Yankees -Keep Price out of New York
Other than that, I'm still not blowing THAT much of a head gasket watching these games.
To be honest, I was laughing at the homeruns because that's all you can do at this point with 340 feet "blasts."

I would like to see how this game would have played out if we got some runs across in the first inning. Hoping the offense - esp those that are really scuffling - can get things straightened out before the playoffs begin. Our offense really slid into the last two seasons cold as ice and kept that way into the playoff games...can't afford to do that again this year.

Lol I was only watching on Gameday and listening to the game, but I didn't imagine this homerun being this bad. It doesn't even make it to the warning track at Fenway lol. This is stupid.

Cora needs to get over his man crush on Núñez. Lets start Devers tomorrow and wrap this division up.

Cora needs to get over his man crush on Núñez. Lets start Devers tomorrow and wrap this division up. Didn't Nunez hurt himself again today anyways? Doesn't sound like he's healthy all over again to end the year.

Price wasn't all that bad. Four walks by the Yankee's tenth man and the reduced strike zone was a big factor. The fact is he didn't matter. As soon as the Yankees scored 2 runs the game was mathematically over.

2 runs is not close to being over. But this offense somehow needs to start grinding out at-bats again if they can't hit homeruns.

I disagree, to an extent. His command was iffy tonight, at best. Should they have hung a 6 on him? Clearly no. However, he wasn't #2 starter good by any sane standard. 4 walks in 5.1. Plenty of balls squared up. I'd guess that the walks were precisely because he didn't want to give up any pop flies to RF.

I was looking at a few comparisons - 2013, then 2016 and 2017 - to compare to our current funk.
2013 - offense was on fire - even though last 4 games we were 2-2, the wins had 12 and 15 runs, losses 5 and 6 runs - 38 runs in the last four games, nearly 10 runs per game. Pretty magical team that was a perfect blend of experience and youth and just shot through the season with few low points.
2016 - last 6 games we were 1-5, scored 17 runs in the 6 games - ave under 3 runs - offense never restarted post season 2017 - last 7 games we were 2-5, scored 31 runs in the 7 games (including 10 in one game at Toronto), around 4.5 runs per game - offense never restarted post season
we've got 10 games to go, and our last 11 games are 6-5, with 36 runs scored - ave of a little over 3 per game, but lots of the line up is scuffling pretty badly.
I am not really worried about the starting pitching - but with the bullpen issues, the offense has to score - and we do best when we score early. So as we move into the last 10 games, I am wondering how Cora will get the confidence back in the line up - in last night's interview post game he noted that they are watching lots more middle plate pitches go by, and he wants them to get back to attacking those pitches.
It's been a remarkable season - first year manager, likely to set the franchise record for wins, huge lead over the MFY- it has largely been a blast - yet we end the season with some significant questions....

The point being that at least two of the base on balls scored . That and the fact that a rookie LHB, Voight got two hits off him. He's our guy but he's not showing a lot in prime time against a playoff bound team.

Voit hit two pop flies that had about a 10% chance of being a hit and less than that for being a HR. Plus he's RH. There's no possible way that happens that many times to Price ever again (along with Andujar's popup). It's one thing if you're giving up 400 foot HR which are well deserved. But these are pop outs that are outs in every other ball park. None of these three HR were even intentional. They were so late on the swing because they were fooled.

Another bad, Voight had 3 hits off Price. He pulled a change to LF for a single, hit a FB to RF for a HR, and hit a change up to RF for a home run. You can lament the dimensions of YS to your hearts content. You can question the pitch selection. The fact remains that a 27 YO rookie got the better of David Price. Luck, maybe, but Hicks and Judge also hit bullets right at Sox defenders. Luck has a way of evening out. Price had his share of good luck in this game.

Seconded that. Please don't allow them to win the final series at the Fenway Park after the 4 game series against TB (hopefully TB win the series). I want them to fly long distance to Oakland and get eliminated by one game playoffs. They won't hit cheap HR's to RF @ A's stadium. I've learned 4 things from this series- -Workman should not be in high leverage -Kelly is not good enough for the playoff roster -Eovaldi is really effective against the Yankees -Keep Price out of New York Other than that, I'm still not blowing THAT much of a head gasket watching these games. Given that today's game is the only one of the series I won't be able to watch, I assume you're right.
