You hears what you wanna hear, and sees what you wanna see. I love being accused of stuff when basically 2 or more reporters said the exact same thing on this subject and was reporting what was coming straight from Dombrowski's mouth. Yeap I hear this stuff to make it suit my agenda when it's being reported. Yeap. Right.

The Red Sox don’t have to do anything dumb ,after this season there’s a lot of money coming off the books. Lou Merloni can just join Tony Mazz and STFU. Didn’t the Sox just win it all. That’s right it’s hard to find a problem so make one up. Evoladi is a better Porcello going forward. I am just surprised even after winning the title no peep from Xander or Mookie about signing long term. Jackie only has so much money value to him and then it doesn’t make sense. I am banking on a rebound year for the minor league system and whoever they lose the next 4 years probably have a QO attached to them , So that’s more assests. Me personally regarding Betts if they offer him Trout money and he says no , I would listen next season not this year. We have to make one more run and like Hatfield said do a facelift. I like that word. Not a rebuild a facelift. But I wish Xander and Betts we could grow old with them. This contract is there best years. Id like that offering mookie at season end like 30@ 10 years to see how serious he is about staying. Also lets you decide on other players if he does not want to come back.

Bryce Harper already declined a offer like that and Mookie is watching the market and probably looking to exceed Harper's demands, considering Mookie is better than Harper.

I'll be updating the estimates that I'd posted after the season ended as these arb figures come in. Those estimates don't include the team's overhead, and they can't take into account the roster changes that will happen as the coming season unfolds. But they're a starting point.

Swihart is already arb eligible? What a waste of 3 years of control.

He was a Super Two qualifier. Well that makes it a little better. How did they manage that?

He was a Super Two qualifier. Well that makes it a little better. How did they manage that? Mostly by accident, I guess, since obviously none of the 2016 stuff went according to plan. That month he was in the minors does appear to have been the difference, though.

EDIT: Posted, like, seconds after vermontsox, but leaving because of "Moose." Glad Sox learned their arb lesson with Mookie. Now on to extensions for him and Xander!

Nice with Mookie. Glad they could work out a deal. Not sure it really has much of an impact as to whether or not they can work out an extension before he hits FA, but it's certainly better than going to arbitration again, and then again next year

Wasn't there literally a report like three days ago that the Sox intended to go with the file and trial approach this season?
Now they're agreeing to deals every hours, haha

Now they're agreeing to deals every hours, haha It's like DD has done a full 180 from when he started. He was crazy predictable and what he said was litterally something you could take to the Bank! Yet now a days it seems he keeps saying crap to throw off people and teams, gain leverage or I don't know just mix things up. He litterally said just that and bam did the exact opposite. I'm guess it was to gain leverage and get these guys to compromise. Which makes sense you don't want to hurt your relationships with players over a small sum of money. I bring this up because a bunch of people think DD is the straight shooter he was when he first took the job. Yet that just doesn't seem to be the case anymore. It's like he morphed into more of a Danny Ainge type of guy. Which is very Smart, yet means we litterally shouldn't take everything he says to the bank like we could a few years back.

No, "file and trial" is a tactic teams use in situations when they do not reach a settlement. In other words, they do not continue negotiating once numbers are filed with the arbitrator. While I also haven't seen any recent comments from Dombrowski about this (either of you have a link? I'm curious), if he did, reaching a settlement before the deadline is not inconsistent with "file and trial," which Dombrowski does use.
