I mean... #5 is Garrett Benge, six feet tall. right? I'm guessing that's a 2018 picture because that looks like Ryan Fitzgerald on the left. (He's also 6' so it really doesn't matter).

Nah, that's last year when Casas moved up to Salem. You're correct about that being Fitzgerald.

Third player is Grant Williams, who we have at 5'10".

As an aside, even though now he has entered the decline phase of his career, I think Joey Votto has been one of the most underrated players of his generation. He doesn't have the overwhelming HR numbers, but his OPS pops out with his ridiculous plate discipline to go along with his excellent hitting. It'll be interesting to see how much support he gets for the HOF, particularly playing on a near anonymous Reds team during that time period. If I was voting, he'd have my vote. If Casas has a career anywhere near Votto's....don't think the hit tool is anywhere near Votto's, although I've heard the Freeman comparisons. Freeman can hit for average in addition to the walks and power. I hope Casas can get that batting average up and reduce his strikeouts. That'll be huge for Casas to do. He's easily the #1 prospect the Sox have, a guy that projects to hit #3 or #4.

Votto has led the league in OBP seven times, and once finished second with a .459. Of course he's a Hall of Famer. Check out all-time first basemen by WAR7 (seven best seasons, non-consecutive): www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_1B.shtml#jaws::3Votto is 11th, right ahead of Frank Thomas, Willy McCovey, and Miguel Cabrera. If Casas is half that player then he's a monster. I can't think of a better player for him to model his offensive game after.

No question in my mind, but I do question if less than stat savvy voters will instantly recognize the fact.

I'm guessing Triston will be good at the marketing thing. Photo by Billie Weiss/Boston Red Sox/Getty Images The name is Casas, Triston Casas.

The best part about casas besides the possibility of being a cornerstone bat for us. He will be ready when JDs contract is done saving this team alot of money that can be used in other places.

Hypothetically, they will both be here in 2022 but you have to wonder how the collective bargaining will affect that.

Callis on Casas from the MLB Pipeline mailbox responding to the question: "Positions aside, where do you rank Triston Casas in terms of offensive potential/projection alone? I know his value is naturally lower because he plays 1B, but he has to be one of the best bats in MiLB at this juncture.":

I recall talking to a Rays scout shortly after that draft at a game (he was doing some pro fill-in work while there wasn't much amateur stuff to see), and he was kind of pissed Casas fell to the Sox where he did. Rays had picked Liberatore at 16 and I don't recall him thinking they should have taken Casas instead, but he thought that was great value at 26. As for the Astros, they took Seth Beer 2 picks after Casas, so you can imagine they wanted Casas there.

From anyone who's gotten to see him in person with any consistency, has there been any change from Casas in approach this season? Looks like he's pulling the ball more than before and more on the ground. Small slump or anything there. Wouldn't necessarily even ask otherwise, but so much has been made of his mature approach to hitting that it was slightly odd to see.
