that was a weak rally, and good job pitching out of it. another 3 strikeouts for Barnes, his curveball feels near unhittable now

I like everything I've seen with Chavis. We have our second baseman.
And we also have a catcher that can handle the bat (finally).

Ok,...can we now admit that Vazquez is an offensive Stud...?
Seriously this guy is coming around with the bat..Not a rollover!

Public service announcement: if Nunez were at bat right now, he would definitely be swinging at the first pitch.

Public service announcement: if Nunez were at bat right now, he would definitely be swinging at the first pitch. i was just thinking that..instead of taking the balls like Chavis, he'd have swung at the first pitch and popped out lol

Chavis is my starting 2b until he proves he CANT handle the job. Nunez should never see the field again.... Wally Pipp'd

So, where were you during the first break out laugher Red Sox game of 2019?
What fun this is!

Thornburg is a buzz kill. No reason to have him on this team - he is broken.

Anyone still have any faith in Thornburg ever becoming anything?

Alex Speier @alexspeier Following Following @alexspeier
Rodriguez said he was sitting in the dugout the other day with Pedroia. Pedroia asked, ‘Want to know how to throw a nasty breaking ball?’ Showed him a different grip. Rodriguez started throwing it two days ago, loved it, used it heavily tonight.

Anyone still have any faith in Thornburg ever becoming anything? He’s obviously having serious trouble commanding in the zone. FB too often dead-ctr and he’s burying only a fraction of his CB, while the CH has been away but up. baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/tyler-thornburg-592804?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlbHis K and BB rates are pretty much in line with career norms but he’s getting barreled a LOT with a high launch angle (again, prob largely a command issue...too many 4FB in the middle and CB up/over). That coincides with a significantly reduced GB rate (which wasn’t great to begin with) and while his sw/contact numbers aren’t all that different his 1st-pitch sw rate is down a lot (suggesting batters know to lay off). Idk if he ever gets his command back after TO surgery, but the pure “stuff” is there. He’s still averaging 94 and his movement looks good. I’m not sure what they do about him...but this is the sort of game you pitch him in. He needs reps, preferably when they’re not very meaningful. I still have hope, but then again I still have hope for this season (Chavis has a BAT), so I might be irrationally optimistic.

Btw, since I was playing on savant, I noticed that Cora’s comment re: Eduardo’s FB is really accurate: he’s not up with it nearly enough. His command of it doesn’t look that good. But look at the CH!! Even the cutter is at least more on the hands/corner; SL not used much but at least it’s down. He really ought to use the CH/SL more heavily, get the FB up but use it more sparingly imo. Funny, he’s better at locating the 2FB up. If he can command his “Pedey breaker” then I’d hope he’d start pitching near-backwards and cut the FB/CU use to 30%/15% and substantially boost the CH/SL (to around 30/10 or 25/15). baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/eduardo-rodriguez-593958?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

JBJ started to come around yesterday, but he really was off to one of the worst starts in Red Sox history. Only way is up from here.

Ok,...can we now admit that Vazquez is an offensive Stud...? Seriously this guy is coming around with the bat..Not a rollover! He was at .195 / .233 / .415 (43 PA, 55 wRC+) when they switched back to Leon.
Since then, .273 / .320 / .545 (25 PA, 117 wRC+).
Of the 30 C in MLB with the most PA, he's 4th in Iso, and there's no one with a higher Iso and lower K rate. That captures his offensive skill set perfectly: surprising bat-to-ball skills and surprising pop.

When are the Sox going to figure out MLB is feeding them deflated baseballs ? Seriously the lack of power is almost inexplicable. Guys all around box leagues are blowing up left and right.

Hembree or Thornburg. If we had the option to remove one from the roster who goes first?
