Brewer is currently walking 7 per nine innings. That is one of the worst walk rates I have ever seen. Yeah, it's not even a little bit rare for someone to have that walk rate over 7 2/3 innings.

Craptastic bullpen can't hold off the worst lineup in baseball.

Welp, looks like a series opening loss to the Tigers. We still haven't had an easy blowout win this year, which is kind of alarming. Like yea, we swept the Rays but two of the games were 1 run advantages (which are often luck as to who wins). Team still not playing well all year yet.

The Sox should promote Mejia after this game or double header and send Brewer to AAA. Got to try something/anything to get more talent in this bullpen.

when your catcher is so bad you have to send up Devers against a lefty to pinch hit. But good on Devers for coming through

I guess we just used up our DH by hitting for Leon? Probably doesn't matter.
What a joke of a strike 3 call on Benintendi.

offense at a team 79 wRC+ (24th of 30 teams) and dropping so far. Lower than teams like the Orioles, Blue Jays, Royals, and Padres. Hard to believe given that the offense has been mostly healthy.

I mean yeah, this bullpen is mostly replacement level or below. You basically have Brasier and Barnes as the only consistent above replacement level players. Maybe Workman? Then what, Brewer, Thornburg, Poyner, Hembree, and Walden? That's essentially a Pawtucket bullpen. But it also makes more sense to spend money on extending the core rather than a declining Kimbrel, so, yeah, we are where we are.
As others have said, they were counting on this offense and SP to be much more than they have been so far. At least Sale showed up today.

How many games has not having a closer cost the Red Sox? 1? They didn't have a lead today, so how does Kimbrel help?
Edit: Sorry, they had a lead in the 3rd inning that they gave up by the 5th.

But it also makes more sense to spend money on extending the core rather than a declining Kimbrel, so, yeah, we are where we are. This would make sense if Kimbrel was the only option in free agency, which wasn't the case. The Sox punted free agency with the bullpen. The only free agent that has thrown a inning out of the bullpen for this team is Erasmo Ramirez. That's horrible knowing the talent you had inn the off-season.

I'm more annoyed with the offense. Bullpen gonna bullpen but let's not ignore that 3 hits in 8 innings aint cutting it.
