I know it doesn’t work like this but JBJ deserves +1 WAR on that play.

That play by JBJ was basically a 2 game swing in the standings. Go from demoralizing walk off loss, to an uplifting win that could be a spring board going forward, and a 500 record isntead of losing a series to the lowly birds and 2 games below 500. This is why I don't really care what JBJ hits/

Yeah, how do you even measure the WPA on that? Not only did it save the game, it turned what would have been one of the most dismaying losses of the season into hands-down the sweetest victory.

Anyone find a link to JBJ’s catch? I wanna watch it 2 or 16 times. How could I say no to you: The best part is that he had time to spare, and actually had to reign himself in and adjust last-second. Amazing.

Lot's of drama tonight. Hopefully Sale feels good over the next few days but it's clearly better just hope physically ok with added work.
Hitting isn't there yet but improvement there too.The bottom of the lineup is still a struggle (chavis!)

Overshadowed by Sale's start, the catch and Benni's bomb, was a heck of a bullpen performance. Barnes showing guts when he didn't have his best stuff, Workman continues to be unhittable and Hembree throwing bb's with movement

Yeap, one or two. Maybe someone from within is another piece. You still have pieces like Thornburg and Brewer who are just depth at the moment and not quality (space fillers). Brewer has a chance to emerge if he can throw strikes.

I agree about letting jackie work through things (not like we have any other good options); it's just when you have Nunez and Leon in there at the same time, it really shortens the lineup. When you have say Chavis and Vazquez hot like they are, the lineup should still be good if jackie continues to slump.

1.5 GB the second WC with 124 left to play (and 3 GB the first). I think that's enough time.
The Rays are playing at a 103.5-win pace, so if we want the division, we may have to beat them head-to-head.
It's tempting to split the season so far into 6-13, then 13-6, but it's actually 6-13, 5-4, 8-2.
Meanwhile the point where the rotation is missing its 3, 4, and 6 starters now coincides with a stretch where they don't need a 5th starter until the end of the rotation turn after this one -- which is 13 days from now because of the off days.

www.mlb.com/redsox/news/could-michael-chavis-play-outfield-for-the-red-soxSo it's in the Sox' back of their minds that Chavis might take some reps at outfield even though he's never done it before. “I’ve been telling him to go with [first-base coach Tom Goodwin] during batting practice and just stand there just to see the flight of the ball,” said Cora. “You never know." It's tough to have him play out there though. You need a lot of athleticism in RF Fenway, and Chavis isn't really athletic according to his report. He could probably be a LF, but Benintendi is already the LF. Benintendi is also a LF only it looks like at this point. He's unplayable in CF and he's never played a inning in RF before. Maybe Chavis can just give Benny a break on a day off or two, but that's JDM's job (for now). Either way, I don't see much coming from this idea. It would be great if he could play RF on a full-time basis, but again, Fenway Park, so he probably will never do it here.

Wow. I missed THE CATCH by JBJ last night and the go-ahead HR by Benintendi, and the overpowering pitching of Heath Hembree, of all people.
My wi-fi wasn't working, but at least I could watch the TV. Went on the phone with the cable company in the bottom of the 9th and with Wilkerson up and with the winning run on 3rd with 2 outs and a 2-2 count, the TV cut out as they tried to fix the wi-fi.
They couldn't and my TV and computer were out and we just stopped wasting our money with the morning newspaper,so until 5 minutes ago I had no idea who won or lost.
Glad to see the Red Sox are finally at .500! Woo-hoo.
As the stats predicted, Braser is starting to run into some regression. He's been struggling lately, but JBJ made that spectacular catch to save him from the loss.
The bigger thing is that Sale dominated. For some moments there I thought he had a legit crack at a no-hitter. He was dominant. And the Sox don't go anywhere without a dominant Sale.
It would be nice to have a dominant Sale and a healthy strong David Price and get Eovaldi back, too.

Encouraging to see Sale gain FB velocity as the game went along. As I recall his last or maybe second to last K was 96. Which was where he topped out.

Interestingly enough, the Red Sox offense has mostly been stars and scrubs. Almost no league average hitter. Vazquez, Moreland, Devers, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Martinez, Betts and Chavis all have a wRC+ of 110 or higher.
Then, (Leon: 52), JBJ: 14, Nunez: 13, Pearce: -16, (Pedroia: -41)
Good hitters have been good, mediocre hitters have been bad.

In Sale's last 4 starts, his line is 26 IP, 15H, 5 ER for a 1.73 ERA, 6 BB and 42 K. His last 2 starts are way better than that.
He's better than ever.
