Juiced balls won't turn a slap hitter into a league average power threat. Maybe turn someone who shoots doubles into the gaps into a double digits HR hitter but this? We're in Che-Hsuan Lin/Ben Revere territory here. Chatham is fifth in the system in doubles so it sounds like he fits the profile you're talking about. Ian and Chris just talked about Chatham having the potential to "tap into" a little more power once he makes it to AAA and the different baseballs like two weeks ago. Fifth in the system doesn't mean anything tbh. He doesn't have pop in his bat and his record as I mentioned shows that. I tried to follow some of his at bats via gameday and he appeared to me as an agressive hitter who ambushes a lot a first pitches and put the ball in play...no intention whatsoever to work a count. I don't like this type of profile tbh, they usually don't make it far but at least he's a good fielder but I'll take Lin over him everyday. I think he'll get traded this summer.

Yes, got it swapped in my head-- Wilson was the batter, Hardy the runner.
It's hard to gauge in the minors if the over-aggressiveness is an intentional thing as a way to gauge different situations, or if they're really just being too aggressive.

They do more delayed steal attempts than any team I can remember, especially the 1st base/3rd base double steal, even when there's a relatively average runner on third. Most of the ones I've seen involve the defending SS cutting off the throw to second.

Yeah, it’s funny because I’ve always sorta liked Chatham’s potential, given he’s a pretty tall, rangy guy with some strength. I’ve been disappointed with the lack of XB power (it’s possible the doubles portend later development, but he’s getting up there age-wise to where there’s less *reasonable* projection left), and moreso with the lack of walks. If he were up around 10-12% BB rate his OBPs would be terrific and the lack of IsoP less egregious. A .300/.380/.370 SS is still pretty solid...a .300/.340/.370 much less so. I agree that unless he really changes his approach, he’s gonna be a tweener to second-division starter at best. With Lin and the Bogey extension, I think you’re right that he is deemed expendable in trade; something along the lines of the Santiago Espinal deal for Pearce (maybe as a piece in a deal for a reliever). I still have hope for Chatham, but the clock is really ticking.

For me, I'm more disappointed by Tanner Nishioka than Chatham.

Robert Vernon Dalbec has been magnificient in May: .304/.407/.681 More importantly, the strikeouts are way way down with 18 Ks in 20 games. In fact, with no Ks tonight he's now averaging a strikeout per game for the 1st time since his stint in Lowell.
