Since Game of Thrones is over and we're heading into the "there's absolutely nothing on tv" part of the year, I thought I'd recommend the following lesser known tv shows that are all pretty excellent in my opinion. All on Netflix.
Bloodline Rectify Bates Motel Russian Doll Halt and Catch Fire
I'm going to be watching Ozark and Mindhunter soon and they look like they might make this list as well.

Ozark is one of few good Netflix shows, I really enjoyed it. Just wish they had more like it. They produce so many shows and Movies, yet most are rather bad.
I just caught up on Billions and I really enjoyed that. Also watching Jamestown which is okay if you like stuff from that time period. Been a bad year for new shows in my opinion.

Billions is awesome. Check out Bloodline if you like Ozark. It has coach from Friday Night Lights in it. One of those shows where everyone makes worse and worse decisions.

The new Our Planet series on Netflix, narrated by David Attenborough. Breathtaking.

Haven't checked out Chernobyl yet, but Barry has been my favorite thing on HBO lately

I loved Ozark so much. I'm mad that I have to wait for season 3 now. Uggh.
I'm watching the show Dark next.

Anyone watch Patriot on Amazon? I'm 2/3 through the first season. Very slow and plodding, but I've mostly watched it on planes and enjoyed it so far. No idea if it stays decent or not.
Want to try Chernobyl since I got HBO for a month. Also doing Barry.

I just binge-watched the final season of GOT, and as much as I tried to drown out the spoilers, I was kind of anticipating being pissed. And I was. Tbh, I don’t think the ending was a “bad” one...but it probably should’ve been set up over another “short” season or a long final one. The seeds were planted long ago, and there was plenty of evidence for how things turned out, but the descent to madness really needed to be a plot line of its own. Also, Emilia Clarke is just amazingly charismatic. She needs many, many more roles. I saw Black Mirror coming out with new episodes. I’ve caught a bit of Ozark, and it’s quite good, though I haven’t done a full-on binge to get immersed. But the...ambiance...is well-crafted. Idk if any of you watch anime, but “Attack on Titan” is in its 3rd season and it’s really quite outstanding. I’ll have to check out some of your list here, I haven’t really been grabbed by any (relatively) new shows in a little while. I’m in a thriller/crime drama sort of mood, though a touch of horror would be nice. I miss “Luther...”, need to get caught up there. Any sci-fi, psychological, or horror reccs greatly appreciated.

Hannibal if you haven't watched it! Nice, thank you. I’ve heard some good things there, too. Is that based on Silence of the Lambs Hannibal ? If so, who is playing the lead ?

Nice, thank you. I’ve heard some good things there, too. Is that based on Silence of the Lambs Hannibal ? If so, who is playing the lead ? Yes. Mads Mikkelsen plays him and he's incredible. The acting really is great other than Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame (Dana Scully). It is quite graphic as you might expect. www.imdb.com/title/tt2243973/.

Oh I totally forgot to mention The Leftovers as a recommendation. It's bizarre, a little sci-fi, bizarre and just keeps your total attention despite not quite knowing why. You don't ever figure out who is good or bad so you can't figure out who to root for.
It's written by the same guys as Lost, but is put together much better.

Thanks, watched the three seasons and enjoyed it. It probably wasn't the best series to binge watch but not all that bad either. The third season was too redundant to the Red Dragon movie but otherwise no real issues. Agree Gillian Anderson was not very good, she should have been dinner in season 1.

For me, the violence wasn't much of a problem, after a bazillion violent shows you get more or less immune to it. For me for binge watching, I prefer more variety, different themes etc. This one was pretty much the same story every week. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but there really wasn't much variety. Maybe for my next binge watch, I'll find a comedy series. Haven't watched any since Friends. For now I'm going to do some research, I always found the sociology of religion as interesting and a friend made a statement that Deuteronomy (Devarim in the Torah) was the beginning of individual rights logic so I want to pursue that thought. Studying 1000 BC Canaan now.

Silicon Valley is a decent comedy to binge. Definitely interesting even though they didn't have any likable characters other than maybe Gilfoyle. Worth the watch but it took me into the second season before I began to really get into it. They overplayed the nerd thing but still interesting plot twists and turns throughout. If the Chinese guy ended up on top, the entire series could have been a metaphor for 5G technology since Huawei is at least a year (maybe more) ahead of everyone else. The world as we know it is going to be changing. I think I'm going to rewatch Friends next. I'm pretty sure I missed quite a few first time around.

I'm watching Master of None now and it's pretty funny. Quite a unique show. For example, one episode there were deaf people starring and there was no sound for the entire episode. The deaf couple were arguing in sign language about oral sex and some mother came up to them "screaming" in sign language to stop talking about vaginas while her kids were running around the store signing vagina over and over again. I haven't laughed that hard at a show in awhile.
That's not most of the show though. Aziz Ansari (Parks and Rec) is the star and it's about his life. I find him pretty hilarious.

I finished season 1 of Mindhunter last night, just in time for season 2 today. Even better than True Detective.
I also started watching GLOW, which is way better than I thought it would be. Just totally sucks you in. I've been binging a lot of tv lately since the Red Sox suck so bad.
