Shawaryn is still up with the club, correct? With the DH on Saturday, it will be interesting to see if Darwinzon gets recalled. The bullpen is going to need some help over the weekend. Darwinzon most likely will be recalled. They've recalled him in every double header so far this year. It's a toss up whether he or Shawaryn starts though.

Would be great if the Jays sweep the Yankees tonight. Edwin Jackson starting though. Don't feel good about that one. Lol.

Cora is looking like he's avoiding Barnes after his really long outing against the Yankees about 4 days ago.

Just here to quietly announce that we are all blessed to witness Rafael Devers blossoming into a 22 year old superstar before our very eyes; that is all.

Cora realizes that Holt is about 10 times better at 2B than Nunez, right?

If only the Red Sox could play KC every day. Wow, sad to see how that franchise has crumbled again. I was happy to see them bring back memories of their mid-70s - mid-80s glory days and win another championship in 2015. Sad that when they don't have that window of competitiveness they can get this bad.
That was the break the Sox needed. Hopefully the Sox can finally reach the 5 games over .500 mark for the first time with a win in their next game.

I hope you’re right. I’m usually an optimistic one on here, so in this instance I’m probably gonna need some others’ optimism to carry me through. Could just be a lasting hangover from their start...so ugly it’s hard for me to completely forget. But, as you say, the talent is clearly there and if they play to it, this team should be right in the fight all the way. Tbh, a rebound run would be even sweeter than last year, given the hole they’d dug themselves...maybe just to up the difficulty level? 🤣 I hope I'm right too. By the way, SSS and all, but Benintendi is hitting .350/.458/.450, 148 wRC+, in the 5 games since he moved back to batting second. I was against that move but maybe I'm a dummy and Alex Cora is a genius. Historically, Beni has hit better with runners on and much better with RISP, so I was a little surprised with the move to start the year, though obviously it’s a small data set. But it’s held up every single year he’s been in MLB, and the differences are both stark and consistent. A couple years ago I hypothesized (prior to JDM signing) that Beni was trying to do too much with the bases empty. Idk if it’s true but his approach improves with runners on. Career, he’s 91/138/156 wRC+(empty/on/RISP), and there’s very little variation. Frankly, I think he should be batting 3rd, JDM 4th, Devers 5th; I’d bat Bogey and Mookie 1/2 (idc about the order, really); Chavis 6, Moreland 7th (unless JBJ stays hot, then I’d put him there), Vaz 8, JBJ 9th. I’d also consider JBJ leadoff if he’s on a hot streak, since his isoD is quite good, though that might waste some power. That’s also part of the benefit of him 9, when he’s hot it’s an extra leadoff guy. Based on his career performance, though, Beni should absolutely be batting behind at least 2 high-OBP guys. It turns him into an exceptionally dangerous hitter.

Blah. I think he's been dealing with this for quite awhile and probably has something to do with why his OPS is 100-200 points lower than last year. Magnesium, 500mg twice a day. Mg also has some clinically supported evidence for improving sleep quality and reducing requirements for pain medication (post-op). Also, make sure you’re getting enough potassium (potatoes, bananas, red meat, blueberry juice, OJ). Acupuncture and yoga both have clinically-supported evidence for helping, too.

Tampa is listing TBD for Friday night even though it's Lonny Chirinos's turn and he's been pitching decently. Presumably he starts either tomorrow or on Saturday eve.
The one SP they have on option is Austin Pruitt, who like Chirinos pitched on 6/1 (and is presumably not pitching for Durham tonight). The other option for the non-Chirinos start would be to use Hunter Wood as an opener.

Michael Chavis K% is now 32%. Problem is that he stopped drawing walks too. He's never been a patient hitter if you followed him through his MiLB career.

I think it's more about the Royals fans who voted 8 starters into the All Star game until MLB intervened and invalidated about 2/3rds of their votes.

I think it's time for him to be sent back down to work on stuff. I don’t disagree. The thing is, if most of his struggles are stemming from sequencing and being pitched up in the zone, not to mention pressing, I wonder whether he’ll grow much in AAA. IMO he needs to learn how to adjust at the major league level, including dealing with more advanced scouting reports and pitch sequencing. He seems pretty resilient, so I don’t worry about his confidence at this point. I would only send him down if his lack of production is dragging down the team, and I don’t think he’s quite at that point yet. I can certainly think of a few other players I’d get rid of first 😄
