I was shocked when I read the “Last Post” title stating “David Ortiz shot in the DR by philsbosoxfan”. And all the time I thought he was thousands of miles away in Mindinao. Ya never know.... Prayers for Big Papi.

What moron would do this? Such an awful event, at first I tried to pretend I hadn't seen this topic. I really hope he can make a full recovery soon.

Ortiz is gonna have a good deal of recovery to go through before this happens, but Fenway is going to erupt when he makes his first appearance back there.

Per Marly Rivera at ESPN from Leo Lopez, Ortiz's assistant and press rep.
"According to Leo López, who works as David Ortiz’s assistant and press representative, his last surgery ended at 3:30am and he’ll remain in intensive care for the next 24 hours. López said doctors had to remove Ortiz’s gallbladder and control bleeding from his liver and bowel."
Also mentioned in Rob Bradford's article, "Lopez also stated the former slugger's liver was damaged."
Awful. I'm sure there are a lot of people here a helluva lot smarter than me in this regard. What are the future repercussions of what he's going through?
At first I heard, "Complete recovery", but now I'm thinking serious after affects, but my understanding is limited, so I'm sure others here understand the repercussions better than I do.
And that doesn't even take into account the psychological scars. I can only imagine it will make him jumpy then rest of his life. He attracts crowds everywhere he goes. I'd be scared of anybody ever sneaking up behind me. You can only imagine how he'll feel. Very scary.
He has so much healing to do.

He survived. There is no paralysis. The injuries seem to be a bit more serious than what we were led to believe before I turned in last night. But all things considered Papi was very fortunate. The outcome from these types of gunshot wounds are almost always far worse.
Can't wait to see him back at Fenway when he feels up to it.

Scary news, but I'm happy he seems to be recovering. Boston is a Red Sox city and they have been even more so in the past 15 years thanks in large part to the large father. It's impossible to put into words what he means to every Red Sox fan. But yeah, he's getting out of this like the absolute monster he is.

I am sure the facilities in the Dominican Republic are adequate, but I would feel a lot better about this if after he is stabilized they put him on an air ambulance to Mass General or one of the other great Boston Hospitals. He is a treasure and I hope he gets the best possible care and is around to spread his unique kind of joy for manny more years.

The video shows that was attempted murder. The suspect is not likely going to survive very long in prison given how much Big Papi is revered in the Dominican Republic. Hopefully they can get Big Papi back to Boston soon to get him the top medical care he will need.

David is not out of danger until he is well on the road to recovery AND there is no sign of infection.
I have had too much personal connection with infections at hospitals to feel comfortable with this situation for awhile.
