Dearden joins Hardy with their first HRs. Lozada's second hit was something you don't see everyday, a one out nobody on base bunt single. ADD: He's now 3/4 with a walk and has raised his average to .361. He was thrown out at the plate on somebody's bad TOOTBLAN decision. Logan Browning with his 7th straight dominant outing. This one was closer though the last out was a line drive caught at the wall. Extremely minor but Hardy homered in Salem.

So reading up and watching video on newly signed Robinson Leyer, here is what I can put together.
Tall, slender, Right Hander with very little (if any) remaining projection. Has a high effort delivery that easily gets out of wack. The delivery looks ok until the ball leaves his hand. At that point he violently falls to the 1stbase side. Actually stumbling. It looks like he's going to end up on the ground after every pitch.
He has elite or near elite velocity and armstrength sitting 95 to 96 topping out around 98 and has broken triple digits on rare occasions. The problem is he doesn't know where it's going, which probably leads us back to his out of control delivery.
He has a slider that shows some good movement with 11 to 5 break. It can get slurvy at times. The slider comes in 86 to 88 mph and he can throw it for strikes.
Robinson also has a change-up that he maintains his armspeed on. It tends to cross the plate rather straight, but can fool hitters when he has his good fastball and some control. 84 to 86 mph which is good separation from the fastball.
That's my very un-scientific scouting report that I gathered from reading all I could find. Seeing as we signed him I was very curious and I figured you guys might be to. I'm hardly an expert at these things. As was mentioned above, Leyer seems like a Bannister project guy with a rocket arm that you can dream on if it can be harnessed... He's 26 years old and I think he'll end up in Portland

I went to all 3 Lowell games in Norwich but am just now getting to the computer. Since the Saturday games are already in the archive, I'll post observations here if that is OK. Taking my seat near the radar guns behind home plate, I walked by someone with a camera and tripod set up. I didn't know what it was for and mistakenly thought it was some kind of home field production until I saw the travel bag ID with the name Brian Bannister on it. www.mlb.com/redsox/team/front-office/brian-bannister I talked with Brian a little before and after the doubleheader games, not knowing if I would be bothering him during the games. He is just a great guy and great to talk to and on Sunday I sat near him and talked to him throughout the game. When I mentioned Sox Prospects he immediately said " Yeah I know Chris and the gang from spring training". I will mention a few things I asked him about later. The starters for the doubleheader, Santana and Ramirez, both pitched effectively with fastballs sitting at 92, both touching 93. Now about the bats. With one out in the third, Jimenez tried to get something started bunting his way on. It was a bad bunt as he popped it head high strait back to the pitcher who fielded it after two small hops just off the dirt of the mound and fired to first. Jimenez beat the throw. A switch hitter, Gilberto beat it out from the right handed batters box. It was a little like watching The Flash play baseball. It is great to go to a game and watch something you've never seen before. With one out in the 7th and Cubillan on first, Jimenez hit a two hopper to short. Cubillan, who is also fast, got a good jump off first. SS King charging the ball looked at second where it would have been close and decided to go to first. You have already guessed the outcome. In between those at-bats, Jimenez hit a sinking liner to center that Liniak made a sliding catch on. Jimenez is worth the price of admission and I know why the staff was so excited about him when they saw him. I watched Groshans throws to second between innings and I thought they were OK but he did bounce the one attempt during the game and Liniak just beat the throw on a close play. Flores made all the plays at short during the weekend except for one bobble on a relay that could have thrown out a runner stretching a double to a triple. He and Suarez were especially quick turning a double play in the eighth to get out of the inning. Flores showed a little pop flying to dead center, just short of the warning track, in the 7th. He also lined a sharp rbi single to pad the 9th inning lead. In the nightcap, the 3 hardest hit balls of the game were 1) Decker 2) Decker and 3) Decker. In the second, his line drive carried over the centerfielders head slicing 20 feet to the left of straightaway center, one hopping the wall. In the 5th, he lined a ball over the second baseman's head with what looked like would be a single. He was running hard all the way around first and when the centerfielder bobbled the ball slightly, that was enough for him to slide in safely with a hustle double. In the 7th, he lined a sharp single to right and was immediately picked off by Baker who had just picked the pinch runner Bandy. There is reason to believe it was a good investment of a second round pick.
