Oh I so hope that Wilson shuts Swihart fans up a little. I don't get it. It's not like people were saying they shouldn't have traded Swihart for Wilson. The argument on Swihart was how he was mishandled for years until things got to that point. I'm pleasantly surprised with what they even got for him at that point, frankly.

The Swihart complaints were getting to be as old as the Trey Ball ones.

The difference is that there were actually new things happening to react to. The Trey Ball stuff was just the same thing over and over that everyone already knew.

There was a pretty good interview with Houck on The Show Before the Show podcast, milb.com's podcast. Houck talked about wanting to work on the change during the AFL, as well as things like the evolution of his arsenal. Highly recommend.

Mayo and Callis had a podcast released today about the AFL and one of them (couldn’t tell you which) said Houck was the best pitcher he’s seen there. Spoke highly about his slider, especially.

From the Callis article linked above: "Jhonathan Diaz, LHP: A switch-pitcher in Venezuela who became a full-time lefty after signing for $600,000 in 2013." I may be one of the few who did not realize that Diaz had been a switch pitcher. Cool. Eddie Bane's son Jamie was a switch pitcher in high school. I used to watch him practice. All of us have probably tried to throw with our glove hand when we were kids. Hard to imagine how someone could do it effectively.

My dad was a pitcher in the Giants organization back in the 60's and was a passable switch-pitcher. He once warmed up lefty, then came into the game throwing right-handed. The opposing manager blew up, accusing my dad's team of changing pitchers after he had set his lineup to face a lefty.

Did anyone else gag in their Cheerios when they read this line in the Globe? I love what Duran has done, but for Peter Abraham to write in a paper owned by the Red Sox owner that he could help make it "easier" to deal Mookie is journalistic malpractice ...
If Duran shows he can hit advanced pitching, he could give the Red Sox an outfield option at some point in 2020. That would make it easier to deal Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts or Jackie Bradley Jr. this winter.

That Duran is the proposed replacement for one of the current OFs just goes to show how little flexibility the Red Sox actually have to trade any of them. I like Duran, he was a sharp pick by the Red Sox, but even an optimistic projection for the guy is that he'll be a nice fourth OF in a couple years.

They have to either trade one of them or be happy with virtually nothing in return. They do not have the payroll budget to retain all three. JBJ must go this winter. I am not sure Betts should survive the winter either. Build the farm, sign a few mid range guys, and focus on life after the new cba.
