Well, look at the bright side. I'm sure Bill Belichick is using the Red Sox as a nice case study as to why the Patriots need to stay focused and forget last year.

Barnes with 11 WP (most in the league) to his ugly 5BB/9. He really has no idea where it is going.

The bullpen wanted to remind everybody that they're awful too. The starter has too much attention as to how bad they've been so the bullpen wanted to contribute to. Man, the pitching staff stinks on the Red Sox. We can agree to an extent and disagree to an extent. Next year Sox put Eovaldi back in starters role, it would be nice to have a real tough reliever. SO far Hernandez looks like the real deal and if Workman or Barnes - if just 1 guy can not fall off a cliff - you do have an 8th inning guy. But the emphasis must reaming on the starters. This season the SOx rose up a week ago and when you needed players to step up-- the bullpen wasn't "bad." The starters let the season down and they need to take the huge hit. Not the bullpen. Starting game 4 last week vs Yanks up until now- SOx starters averaged a crummy 4.9 innings with a pathetic 9.7 ERA. We needed all segments ready - season on the line- for battle and sadly the starters left the fort stranded. Much money has been invested in the starters at the expense of the bullpen. We got another shitty start form our starers and our bullpen outperformed the starters yet again while they should have no business doing so. Awful can't describe how bad the starters have performed since game of at Fenway vs Yanks last week. They averaged 4.9 innings with a 9.7 ERA after today while the bullpen had an era of 3.81 averaging 3.7 innings per game. You'd like to think in these big games your starters are supposed to perform bigger the way this team was constructed. You should get at least 6 but frankly more. And a 9.7 ERA? Too much emphasis was put on last year's super great Sox team at end of season looking for bullpen help. It was oversize emphasized. While this year this bullpen was not good it's nowhere near the disappointment the starters showed us. The sox have paid a ton of money on their starters which limits the ability to risk other positions and "pay" for big time reliever upgrades and quality position players. The starters awful performance must be turned around. It will be extra-ordinarily lucky to find "terrific relievers" when you are going to be paying so much for starters and position players while keeping under the cap. Yes bullpen can use a reliever but how much are Cubs digging Kimbrel? Or the Mets digging Diaz and Familia? Why keep throwing darts if you aren't 100% sure? Let's wait and use our secondary prospects or a bit higher coupled with something else to get something we KNOW can perform instead of keep throwing darts at relievers? My comment was gallow's humor re: the bullpen. The ENTIRE pitching staff has been awful and with all the focus rightfully on the rotation the bullpen guys got lonely and wanted to remind everybody they're bad, too. It's just an awful collective pitching staff. If you go individually, player by player, you can see good things, but put it all together, and it's a disaster.

July ERA: Red Sox 5.30, plus 12 unearned runs. 27th in mlb ... .834 OPSA PawSox 4.30, plus 3 unearned.
September call-ups will be marginally helpful.
This presumes Cora uses pitchers who've been effective, pulls them when they clearly don't have it a particular day, And refrains from leaving a guy for a 40-pitch inning.

Not too long ago using the wrong RP, blowing games by keeping him in too long, etc was called getting Farrelled.

How do you know your season has gone wrong?
The sub-.500 Mets are closer to a playoff spot (4.5 GB) than the Red Sox (5.5 GB).

Okay, time to get back on the horse! Our good relievers are all nice and rested. And the Yankees are all very sad that they didn't add a starter at the deadline so they ought to be pushovers. A good series here are we're right back in it! Okay, new season goal: I'm counting this year a success if the Yankees don't make it to the World Series!

Now that the Red Sox feel completely out of it, I'm interested in seeing how far this losing streak can go.

Now that the Red Sox feel completely out of it, I'm interested in seeing how far this losing streak can go. I expect NYY to complete the sweep that the Red Sox failed to complete last week. Then I would expect it to end at 8 when the Sox beat up the Royals three straight.

If Dombrowski's contract is up, I hope John Henry strongly considers stealing whomever is Houston's #2 person to run the team next. Whatever magic dust they're using over there seems to be working quite well, especially with their pitchers. Hell, they let Keuchel and Morton walk and they're still crushing it.

Wow... This is such a disappointing stretch. Really didn't expect it from this team. Thought we had seen a different team the whole season other than the first 3 weeks. I still think they are gonna pull it together for a wild card, but this series against the Yankees is the first moment of the season where it feels like they are a disaster of underachievement for how much money and talent is here. Chris Sale is the most offensive part in my opinion. It is a visceral pain for me.

Any chance the Red Sox avoid the 4-game sweep with a rainout?

Anyone actually watching? At this point, I'm just sticking with Gameday until they decide to put on a better showing.

Anyone actually watching? Absolutely. I don’t claim to watch every inning of every game, but I probably watch part of at least 130 games. I post less frequently when they are not winning because the board is more entertaining to me when the team is playing well.
