Lots of themes tonight -
Song tries to stop Spinners 7 game skid. They're 2-8 in their last 10 games and their lead is down to 5 games Ward trying to cut down on the walks and get Salem back on track. They're 3-7 in their last down and have fallen 1/2 game into 2nd place. Mata needs to get back on track after a rough time 5 days ago and the Sea Dog rolling. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and now just 4 games behind Lehigh Valley.

Oh, if anyone is going to be in SC tonight and going to go see the Shugart pitch, please let DMainah know.

So far in the GCL doubleheader, Ceddanne Rafaela is 4/5 with a 3B and HR.

Yeah....saw that. Rafaela is not a big guy...sort of Mookie light....but he is a strong looking wiry type at this juncture. 5 dingers in this heavy wet air environment with big ball fields is pretty damned impressive....especially considering his stature.

Just going off of box score watching it seems like he stings everything he makes contact with-a lot more extra base hits then you would expect from somebody that weighs 150 pounds

At Lowell for tonight’s game. Song looked okay, perhaps he was working on his breaking stuff as he topped off at 89 mph. Scott hit a no doubter 3 run HR and Decker a solid triple.

HR #7 for new power threat Pedro Castellanos. Hope he finally unlocked the power in his swing.

All 3 runners score on sacrifice fly as Vermont SS throws away relay throw. Welcome to Single A baseball.

HR #7 for new power threat Pedro Castellanos. Hope he finally unlocked the power in his swing. He's been really picking it up over the past month, I hope his power uptick is legitimate.

Jimenez is legit...hits the ball hard, fast, and fields/throws well.

Man, Song looks like the real deal. It will be fascinating to see how his time in the Sox minor league system plays out.

Back to back dingers nights for Bobby Bombs. really glad we didn't trade Dalbec. His ceiling is too high. when the gets hot, the guy mashes! nice to see a hot early start in AAA, get his confidence going strong. I think his power is sickening, maybe 70-75.

I wonder if Mata's velocity was down again tonight. He's at 86 IP now, a career high.
Shugart back in the saddle again.

Never use the scoreboard gun. He was 92-94 T95. What were YPA's vitals ? Anything to see there ? Topped out at 90, sat 87-89. Threw both curve (69-79 mph, seriously) and slider (like, 75-80 off the top of my head). Maybe a changeup or two. Gets by on deception. Nice but I saw nothing that made me think he needs to be in our top 40.

Man, Song looks like the real deal. It will be fascinating to see how his time in the Sox minor league system plays out. Changeup was his best secondary. You will find multiple tweets from purported prospect writers who were there I guess saying that the slider was filthy. It was not. Hitters had no issue laying off of it. I tweeted the numbers but the changeup was far more effective. I was glad I saw a fuller outing than his debut, when he was clearly amped with adrenaline (both from debuting and from pitching near the Academy). Nice arm and a steal in the 4th for 100k, but my bet is that he slides back behind Lugo as the 3rd best guy from this draft at the end of the season. Ian's comment was that he's definitely not 10 spots better than Zeferjahn, which probably also means we have Zeferjahn a shade low, but the point made sense. And while I'm feeling feisty, Cannon is most certainly not a 20 defender. He's probably not a shortstop, but I've seen 20 defenders in this system this year and he's not one. Not sure if Law was in a bad mood on that one or what, but that's silly.

Hitter notes from my bus to Logan
Jimenez is definitely the best hitter on this team. As I tweeted, he stretched a line drive base hit to right center into a stand-up double without even a play at second. Like Kelly referenced the other day, you assume what the play is off the bat, but then it's not. But he's not just a speed guy - he can handle the bat, especially right handed. May not be much pop from that side but he won't need much. He still figuring it out in CF as well but he has time and I think he will. I think he will move slow, but he's a nice prospect.
Decker looks confident in the box right now. Some nice juice in the bat there. He starts next year in Greenville but I could see him being the first of the young Spinners to get to Salem, if that makes sense.
Conversely, I think Flores will be well served by getting a full offseason and getting a fresh start. There's a lot of talent there and I still think rankings of him this offseason will show who's doing this based on the box score, but you can only hover around .200 for so long. Defensively, he looks better at 2B than SS, honestly, but they should let him keep getting reps at SS next year.
Cannon is ultra aggressive, but then has taken some tough called strikes. I think he's still figuring out the pro strike zone (getting away from NYPL umps will help with this I bet). And like I said, he's not a 20 defender. Not sure if he'll settle in at 2B or 3B but he's no hack.
Not Lowell, but got a report that Lugo has looked impressive lately in the GCL. My guess is that he took a bit to adjust (we got a less than glowing report early on) but now has five so. I'm interested to see how aggressive they'll be with Lugo (Greenville or Lowell) and Cannon (Salem or Greenville) next spring.
