Sox system bringing out the big guns tonight. 4 pitchers in the top 25 prospects (according this site, of course) going tonight. 4 of the top 5, maybe 6 starting pitching prospects for the Sox. Fun night to prospect watch!

Eduardo Lopez up to .255
. Walking a lot, not striking out a lot (1-1 ratio). 7 triples. 16 steals.
Great spot to be in when considering his numbers to start the year

Maybe I'm just way behind on Song news but hasn't he said that regardless of the waiver system he wants to honor his commitment? Also, I know there's no Top 100 level guy in the mix, but this is easily the most prospects this system has had since I've started following it (8 years or so) that actually have a chance to stick as starters. At least as far as I can remember.

Rather, I think he's just be careful with his language to date to basically say that he is currently planning and preparing as if he will honor the commitment (which he is wise to say until if/when it becomes official that he can postpone it).

Got it, that must've been what I'd seen and just interpreted it as honoring the commitment. Thanks.

This will shock everyone, but the GCL Red Sox game has been rained out. It is, by my count, the 12th time a GCL Sox game has been postponed or suspended.

I've always been a little surprised that the GCL never got any competition. Between the rainouts and playing in temperatures that are similar to hell, why hasn't a league formed somewhere where baseball is able to be played a little more regularly? I guess all these spring training sites need something to do for the rest of the year...

It would be a lot more expensive logistically, but having all teams do spring training/rookie leagues in Arizona just makes so much sense on the baseball side. add: I guess they could always just mandate indoor stadiums.

Doesn't the rain in Florida usually pass by late afternoon? Wouldn't a chunk of this just be fixed by playing evening games? I've never done Florida in the summer, so I may be totally off on that one.

The difference in price between an outdoor and indoor stadium would be astronomical. It's not like a basketball court. You have to build it at least 200 feet tall.

That's true, I was moreso comparing the price of an indoor stadium to the price of moving everything to Arizona. And to James' point, from my Florida experience the rain is pretty patchy. I never noticed a particular time of day where it was stronger.

I can't imagine either place being a good location for summer baseball.

Given that the games are all one-day trips, it's probably a travel thing.

I can't imagine either place being a good location for summer baseball. The West Coast gets basically no rain and is pretty mild in the summer. Why not a Nor Cal-Oregon league? Or to keep it all geographically compact, a Willamette Valley league or something?

Teams spend as little money as possible on the GCL and AZL. If some games get banged because of rain, it's not a huge deal.

Not sure where else to post this question, but since we have several top starting pitching prospects pitching tonight can someone with deep knowledge of Sox pitching prospects history explain if I should be more excited with this current crop than say the batch of Webster, Del La Rosa, Owens, Ranaudo, Bowden, Stolmy Piemental, can even include Trey Ball at 1 point. Lol Workman and Barnes were thought of starters at one point too in this era, and luckily they turned out to be excellent relievers.
I’m excited of what Mata, Groome (still have hope for him) and Song could become in particular, but I’m tempering my expectations because of TINSTAPP. Lol
It will also be interesting to see where Beeks, Logan Allen, Shaun Anderson, Kopech, and Espinoza are in their careers a few years down the road compared to what we currently have on the farm.

I've never done Florida in the summer, so I may be totally off on that one. Afternoon/early evening is generally the heaviest shower time for florida during the rainy season. Mornings will happen some, same with later on in the evenings, but afternoon/early evenings is "usually" the worst. That said? Here in Lakeland and this area.. I'd say it's been with out looking at total rainfall totals, one of the heavier overall totals in several years rain wise. There are certain years where it's not quite as heavy, or thunderstorm season may start early/end early, start late and end late, but heavier rain times generally hold true regardless.

Is Mata just running out of steam this late in the year?
And, wow what an impressive start for Song

Can’t the Sox get Tom Brady to talk to Trump about Song? It worked with Kim Kardashian.
