To bring this back to Sale, my educated guess on what is going on with him based on what has been said and what has been done is that he has a partial but not complete tear of his UCL. The reason why I say this is that he wouldn't get PRP injections for a full tear. This is good news, not bad news, considering that in the research papers I posted earlier that PRP injections are often times successful with partial tears, especially when the pitcher has not had TJS before.

It used to be that if you got a PRP injection it meant there was a tear but they have been used to treat inflammation that’s not caused by a tear more recently.

Did Chris Sale get reevaluated yet? If not, when?

Sale hasn’t resumed throwing since being shut down in mid-August. He will likely schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Andrews but there is no set date for that, according to Cora.

But I thought they said back in August that Dr. James Andrews would reevaluate him in 6 weeks just to check if the swelling went down and if there were any other problems?

Is there anyone here who thinks the Sox would be better off with Sale than they would be with Betts ? It's said they can't sign Betts because of payroll. However if the were able to unload Sale the problem would be manageable. The trouble is I doubt any team in MLB would take on Sales contract even if the Sox offered to trade him for a bag of peanuts.

No one is taking Sale, Price, or Eovaldi with their injury issues. That's more of the problem here if you're trying to get rid of any of the three.

However if the were able to unload Sale the problem would be manageable. The trouble is I doubt any team in MLB would take on Sales contract even if the Sox offered to trade him for a bag of peanuts. It's hard to really say. If we're getting vintage Sale and have a solid rotation behind him, then that would set the Red Sox up better for success. The problem is, Chris Sale is showing he's incapable of making it through an entire season no matter what they do with him and the rest of the rotation has tremendous upside, but also have a ton of questions. Not to mention his average FB velocity has started to dip. The fear here is that he's probably closer to Tim Lincecum than Randy Johnson moving forward. That's not to say he's a lock to be bad and hurt, but there's no way any organization is going to eat his entire contract unless they get desperate at the trade deadline and he's pitching lights out and healthy, but then the Red Sox would be counting on him at that point. For better or for worse, they're saddled with Price, Sale, and Eovaldi unless they package prospects to go along with them and this team isn't in the business of trading away top prospects to free up money. On the bright side, Pablo Sandoval's 19 million becomes 5 million next year and then they're off the books for good. Dustin Pedroia goes from 15 to 13 this year and then 13 to 12 the year after then done. Rusney has 13.5 owed next year before they're done paying him, but there's no luxury tax implications with him. It's still real money though which could impact Henry's decision making on the team's budget and if he's willing to creep into the luxury tax or not. As an aside, they're also paying Manny Ramirez $2 million a year until 2026. As for Betts, the only way I can see this club retaining him is if they wait the year and then backload his contract. With some contracts coming up the next 2-3 years maybe you can retain him by paying him x amount more after 2 years when David Price's contract is up. Maybe something like 20 million year 1, 25 million year 2, 40 million over 5 years, then creep it back down towards the end, say 32 year 8, 30 year 9 and then some sort of option for year 10 at 25 million. A 9 year contract would bring him to age 36 at $307 million with 10th year team incentive option+player option (based on plate appearances, but also give Betts the right to opt out) bringing the total value at 10 years 332 million. Then again, Bryce Harper got 13/330 which screws everything up so instead of these options you just extend him an extra couple of years at 25 million. Not sure how feasible or realistic any of this is and it doesn't appear the organization wants to go this route. Just rambling, but there's not much else to talk about, unfortunately.

So Sale still hasn't had a follow up with Andrews, which I know everyone is probably concerned about. But this article in the Globe today should put some at ease. It explains the timeline and it all sounds reasonable, but I'd not go so far as putting my concerns "at ease." Frankly, I think the only thing that's going to put me at ease his him being healthy into the summer.

But I get what you're saying.

Hate to say it - and I say this as somebody who really enjoys watching Chris Sale pitch and respects his accountability - but until he gets through a full season healthy I really won't believe he's healthy. If he wants to prove me wrong, get through the season healthy (and hopefully effective toward the end of the season as well).
It's really hard to imagine the Red Sox going anywhere significant in 2020, Mookie or no Mookie, without Chris Sale being a big contributor and leading that pitching staff. E-Rod was really good last year, but he's not an ace. Chris Sale can be a true ace.

We will all have to wait and see for sure but this is good news at this point so I will take it.
I am going to stick to my forecast of the starting rotation having a WAR of 18+!!

According to bloom sale has been cleared by dr.andrews to start throwing immediately and it sounds like a normal offseason for sale.
