There have been two days in the last 17 in which the GCL Red Sox have played one game: the 14th and 15th. The other 15 days have featured either no games, a doubleheader, or a completion of a suspended game folowed by regularly-scheduled one.

Home runs from two of the 2019 draftees. 4th from Jaxx Groshans and 5th from Joe Davis.
Davis has been impressive so far. Hitting for average and power. 16% K rate. Going to be a fun guy to root for.

Robinson Leyer, who we picked up as a minor league free agent in June, was throwing 97 in Portland tonight. He is a thinnish, tight muscled, wiry guy now 26 who went 2.1 innings and struck out 3 lowering his ERA to 2.41.

Jorge Rodriguez with another good performance. 5 innings, 4 hits, no runs, 6 strikeouts.... 1.93 ERA. I've been in the Philippines 12 years and this is by far the wettest year I've seen. Wet to the point that for about a month, I've been looking at the weather around SE Asia, something that I'd never thought about. I've never done that so, I have no reference points but I find it difficult to believe that what I'm seeing is an ordinary year. Last night was the longest sustained heavy rain I've seen here. Yesterday, we emptied the cement pit and this morning it was overflowing, about 5 inches deep. We're digging a trench next to the house where my wife will have a flower garden after we add topsoil, the waterline was about 15 inches deep. Mixed blessings because everything is lush and green. On the other hand there are a lot of dengue cases this year, our insurance agent's daughter died from it, she was only 4 years old. ADD: Generally it's been light rain almost every night, not heavy rain. Today, it's noon and 86F with very few clouds, my flat roof is already dry and the garden waterline has already sunk into the limestone.

Wilson (7) and Curletta (8) also had HRs for Portland. . . Ryan Fernandez (2018 23rd round draftee) now has a .86 WHIP for the season. SP Scouting Report: Undersized as far as righthanded pitchers go, and scouts believe he's likely destined for the bullpen, but has been up to 95 mph with his fastball at times and shows a solid average changeup to go with a below average breaking ball and quality strike-throwing ability.

Yeah, the pitching in the 2nd GCL game is of note. 18 year olds doing well. Yoelvis continuing to do his thing. Rodriguez shoving from the left side. Leads the league in K's.
