Another DSL guy having a good year is Eddinson Paulino. 17 year old shortstop hitting .287 with a .774 OPS. 17 BBs to 23 Ks. Only 6 XBHs though.

Roldani Baldwin 2-3 so far today for the GCL squad
He’s a legit prospect without the injury concerns

Murphy really has looked terrific. There’s nothing about his performance that screams “regression”...his LOB is a little high, but not glaringly so, and the BABIP against is a little high as well, also not glaringly. His control has been excellent and he’s at nearly 11 k/9. The GB rate is pleasantly high, to, a tick under 50%. I’d love to hear an in-person scouting report; seems he has good velocity (at least average), and projectable stuff otherwise. I’m loving the K/BB and K-BB rates, the latter of which is a good predictor of success. Could be a minor steal in the 4th round, and possibly a guy similar to Ward who maybe adds a cutter and moves fairly quickly relative to draft position. He’s also on the young side for his class, being drafted before turning 21. So he’ll basically pitch ‘20 at 21, and if he makes Salem as Ward has, he’ll be on track for AA at 22. I love that.

Definitely some reasons to be excited. A couple things for you....first, he's actually the 6th rounder from this year's draft -- hard to believe, but Song is the 4th rounder. So yeah, definitely a great stat line for a guy taken slightly underslot in Round 6. As for an in-person look...your timing is good. Check out the latest podcast here for Chris and Ian's takes on Lowell players including Murphy.

His triple slash isn’t eye-popping, but it’s solid, he has a TON of triples, 18 SB (against 7 CS, so some work needed there), and looks like he’s got a good chance to stick in CF and potentially be above-average. Their lower-minors talent is looking quite good. And Marcus Wilson in AA has a little helium; between he and Duran it seems they might have a viable in-house JBJ replacement. Wilson still whiffs too much, but he’s been light-years better than when he first arrived. Their up-the middle talent might not have any guys who look like future stars yet, but it’s pretty deep and there are plenty of guys with the tools to *become* stars if they develop some requisite skills.

Check out the latest podcast here for Chris and Ian's takes on Lowell players including Murphy. Eesh, it’s funny cuz I thought he was 6th rd but was looking at fg Board and saw 4th, and completely forgot Song was the guy they took there...prob because he was a 1a-2 talent. I’ll def check out the podcast; I remember Murphy signed for something in the $60k range underslot? Even better though, because he’s looking like a possibly Duran-level steal at 6 (vs 7), and Song is a huge steal in 4 particularly if he gets a service exemption (tho idk if he would pass it up tbh...seems important to him for character reasons; we’ll see). I *LOVE* Lugo where they got him in 2. I’m less excited about Cannon, although I get the pick as a lower-risk one with plus hit tool upside that might blossom with 50 game power if he gets his lower body more involved. No Northcutt or Howlett in this draft, but top-10, especially top-5 up, I think they got tremendously lucky (and took advantage by being good).

I've said elsewhere, but good tidbits on Song and Murphy in the Rikard interview that'll be in the next podcast, likely dropping on Monday.

Two standouts from the GCL game.
Dean Miller adds his fourth home run of the year. .298/.372/.521/.893 on the year with 16 XBHs. K rate is a bit high and he’s a senior sign in the GCL but he’s hit the ball well in his draft year.
Jorge Rodriguez struck out 7 and walked none in 5 innings, with his only blemish being a solo home run. 58 Ks, 9 BBs and a 1.91 ERA as a 19ish (his birthday is tomorrow) year old in the GCL. I like his chances of sticking as a lefty starter with his pitch mix.

Casis and Dalbec with home runs. Jimenez with 4 hits. Chavis 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. Not a bad night for the top portion players in the system. Only Duran didn't get a hit and he had a walk.

Esplin seems to have been figuring things out in the 2nd half of the season. Could be completely making that up but still not a bad season for his age either way

In the same Lowell game, Northcut is now 3/4 with a double.

Distance and Exo on Bobby Bombs Hr? Don’t have the numbers but it was an absolute bomb out to right center. Pitch was fat and the ball just kept carrying. Hit the labatt blue can in buffalo

I have him #5 in my current rankings In the last podcast, Ian said he was considering him top 3 and I think he was only half joking. 4 standout plus-to-better tools is eye catching for a 19 yo in SSA
