Matthew Lugo seems to have hit a little bit of a wall. 2 for 23 with 11 strikeouts in his last eight games. Pretty good rookie campaign regardless.

www.nytimes.com/1981/08/16/sports/baseball-rethinks-playoff-format.htmlEastern League used the "Kuhn rule" from 1981, without modifying the final weeks schedule. They avoided the calamity this year, it appears. If Reading had dropped down in the standings, they could qualify for the playoffs by losing to Trenton this coming weekend. That would be true if they: 1. Forfeit to Trenton 2. Lose deliberately 3. Lose unintentionally By beating Trenton, they could have eliminated themselves. Absurd no matter the outcome. In any event, it looks like Reading will win the second half easily, so they don't need Trenton to repeat as the first place team.

Perhaps 2 or 3 GCL guys will join Lowell for the playoffs. GCL playing the dominant Orioles. 22-year old Dominic has dropped from .959 OPS in July to .616 in Aug.

Groome goes one inning again. One strikeout and one single allowed. K rate dips down to 37.5%.

Groome is lined up to start the last game of the GCL season on Saturday. I'd assume he will probably rest between then and instructs, instead of continuing his rehab with Lowell, etc.
ADD: forgot that all the seasons wrap up this weekend. Probably will see him next in instructs.

Probably will see him next in instructs. Actually, I'd be surprised if they didn't push him up to Lowell. If he's throwing one inning at a time at a level lower than where he was pre-injury anyway, I don't see the harm. Ian was speculating on the podcast that should come out tonight or tomorrow that this might be the third season in which he has to drive to Connecticut to see Groome.

It appears the Red Sox signed LHP Tom Windle, who was most recently in the Phillies organization.

After taking the Jays top pitching prospect deep yesterday, Bobby Bombs adds another quality victim to his list by taking Devei Garcia, the MFY pitching prospect, deep tonight.

Potomac won, so Salem keeps maintains a 2.5 game lead with magic number now at six. Connecticut lost, so Lowell lead stays at four, and magic number drops to four.

Nice to see Dalbec getting to his power, but before we all get too crazy, let's remember that we sort of knew this was exactly what he was going to do with the AAA baseball.

Yep - he's hit 21 fly balls and six have gone out the park. On the other hand, his last two have been against legit dudes. Guys like Pearson and Garcia would've eaten him up a year ago.
