I'm confused why Curletta is on the 40 man roster. He was waived by Seattle in May and the Sox claimed him. Why did he have to go on the 40 man then? In order for a 40-man player to become a non-roster player (non-40-man), all 30 teams have to pass on him. Curletta went on waivers Fri at 2pm, came off today at 1pm. Nobody claimed him, which allows Sox to remove him from roster. Seattle wasn't successful. Sox claimed. So he went to their 40-man roster. Rules protect the player from being downgraded when other teams want him. Ah ok, thanks.

last night was tough to take because the other games were so in our favor and we had the lead. That said, we gotta hope that the guys can win 6 or seven in a row. then things will get interesting.

Okay, 4-0 lead. Just need the bullpen to get a quick 21 outs here...

Being behind 2 teams sucks. Oakland lost, but Tampa won.

Albert Pujols is 300 years old and his limbs are made of rusted pipes and he has hit .500/.533/.857 in this series.

Disgraceful that Gorkys is in the lineup. Travis is their RHB OF.
If they need a RH 1B, they have one in AAA.
Gorkys since all-star break, AAA: 156 AB, .646 OPS

What killed this game wasn't anyone who pitched today. It was Workman's failed save in the 9th last night that turned into a 15-inning game one day too early. Yes. The failed bullpen lead to more people being unavailable the next day. The starters not doing their job is one thing, but when you completely ignore that the bullpen is shooting itself in the foot half the time, then well, we will agree to disagree then. See, I don't call what the bullpen is doing "shooting themselves in the foot." That implies carelessness and letting bad things happen when you are clearly capable of avoiding it. It isn't clear that the Sox bullpen at this point can avoid bad things happening somewhere, somehow. When you send in a parade of relievers, the chances increase that SOMEBODY doesn't have it that day, simply because of increased exposure. Friday was Workman's day to struggle, yesterday was Brasier's, and yesterday's implosion wasn't unexpected given Brasier's general difficulties this season and his specific issues pitching on consecutive days. Yes, it might have been nice to see Johnson go another inning, but maybe he had reached the limits of HIS capabilities. The dugout knows things we don't. And now Price goes only two innings today, so it's ANOTHER bullpen game. Every game this series has in essence been a bullpen game. It's simply asking too much. Now I assume we are going to see a parade of just-brought-up guys today, which is fine, but they may have just-arrived from the other coast syndrome, and they are minor leaguers after all. So maybe the reasons are a little different, but the chances are that somebody is going to cough up some runs. What's the over/under on how many runs the Sox need to win today's game? Maybe 8?

The fact that Price had such a short leash is probably another factor in Lakins not being used yesterday. And if it's between his pitching late in a game after just arriving from the east coast and pitching during a day game, I can see why the latter might be preferable.

it doesn't matter that our starters don't pitch much. Bullpen games are the all the rage. Just look at Tampa Bays record. You really don't want batters to see pitchers more than once anyway. Bullpen games....they way of the future.

Give me stud starting pitching any day of the week. Friggin' Verlander no-hitter type stuff.

Being behind 2 teams sucks. Oakland lost, but Tampa won. We're behind three teams, because they're all within a half game of each other. Tampa winning meant that Cleveland lost, and that's more important.
Tampa is the only team of the three that we play again. There has never been a scenario where we pull off this miracle without beating Tampa 3 of 4, three weekends from now.
So you can subtract 2 games from the lead Tampa has on us. We can force them to lose three (or four) times. We have no power to force Cleveland to lose. Tampa just did it for us.
Now, if the Indians collapse completely and we can catch them easily, we may well wish the Rays hadn't sweep them. But the much likelier scenario is that they continue to play .500-ish ball, and that those extra losses in Tampa will be necessary for us to pass both clubs.

Is Porcello going to be forced to sit and watch ... while the world melts around them?
EDit: If they score a few more runs & they let Weber finish it, it takes Cora out of the picture.
Which is a good thing

Does kind of seem like it would be worth it to bring him up and see if he could be one of those rookies who crushes it for 3 weeks before the league figures him out, a la Chavis.
