Well, it's hard to argue with having Romero to take over, but I give Dombrowski absolutely zero fault for this seasons. Dumb people who can't see more than 5 seconds in the future or expect a GM to be able to predict the future are to blame.

it's probably time for Romero to get a bigger role I suppose. There had to have been a disconnect between the team/front office/DD this year; and there were a lot of rumblings behind the scenes about DD being more isolated. I'd guess more departures coming.
Was never a huge DD guy, but he helped bring us a WS so for that I'll always say thanks.

This feels like something extra happened, beyond just the team construction. Like, it's been a frustrating season, sure, but this is going to be his first full season not being in first place in the AL East since they hired him.
Happy for Romero, obviously.
EDIT: Errrr... this will obviously NOT be his first full season. You all know what I meant.

I am sure some reporter will have the full story behind the scenes. I forget who said this but they don’t expect Dana to last either.
The only positive to me is Eddie. I don’t want to lose him. I hope he gets the job. The transition is complete with the club. Eddie needs to keep working on our system. That’s what is so valuable about him. They have a couple of key contracts to make decisions on. I support Eddie all the way.

Legit shocked. Won a million games and won a trophy less than a year ago.

Geez, wasn't even paying attention to the Red Sox tonight. Was enjoying a fun Patriots game as they've already entertained more than the 2019 Red Sox have.
Then I hear the news that Dombrowski is out.
It will be interesting as details leak out.
If I had to guess, perhaps the Red Sox felt that Dombrowski had already run his course, maximized the Red Sox window and had nowhere to go but down? Didn't want him at the helm of this crossroads offseason?
Honestly, I don't think so. It had to be some sort of personality conflict. That's more likely. Perhaps Shaughnessy had bingo. If it was just him, Wren, and LaRussa and pretty much the rest of the organization was isolated, perhaps that was the bigger issue?
It will come out soon as to exactly why he's out.
I think he did a really good job. I know it looks bad some of the moves this past offseason, but given what the farm system looks like, what his choices were, and that the rotation gave out, some of that was just bad luck.
I am glad it's Ed Romero Jr in charge, but I have to ask. We knew he was a rising star in the organization. Is there anybody else left? It's like the organization had a brain drain over the past five years or so as others have left the organization.

Wow. I certainly wasn't expecting this before the season ended. Didn't love the DDo hire when it happened, but I certainly did enjoy the 2016-2018 seasons - and he certainly deserves some credit for those. I wish him well.

There is obviously something going on that is beyond the scenes. DDo doesn't deserve a firing. I'm not upset about it, but it absolutely is not his fault either.
Every ....... problem with this team was limited by prospect unavailability along with a lack of budget both of which he spent to win a World series.

O'Halloran's been around to long to have "rising star" cache but my guess is he'd be plenty capable.

Different views on the what to do going into Betts negotiations, etc? I don’t usually feel any emotion at all about GMs, but without something more concrete than this season sucked, this feels absolutely brutal.

A bit of a shocker since the season isn't over yet. I'm guessing something happened behind the scenes. Great choice to replace him.

There's clearly an argument that he wasn't the right GM for the era of sustaining excellence, but if that was the main reason I think they would have waited until the end of the year rather than now.

This really makes the Red Sox look like a ... joke. I hope a good explanation is given.
Dombrowski was given the task to win the World Series at almost any expense. He did that. And then the limitations he had after that made it very predictably hard to repeat and that got him fired? Joke.

I am really happy about this! I'm mostly happy about the fact our farm can be built up again (most likely). I do not blame DD for this season with only a few exceptions. He is as accountable as any other GM I suppose.
Outside of my love for the prospect side of things there is one big thing that comes from this....and that is Eddie Romero. I am a big fan of him, and felt he would make a good GM. Yes, the Sox may hire someone else, but for the time being I assume he will hold the spot. There's not many people out there with his scouting knowledge, hes an organization favorite, and he is highly respected in baseball circles. Luckily, to gain this respect it takes year of hard work, knowledge and relatively good success rates (scouting). I hope they give him the opportunity this year before looking externally. My guess is they will look into possibly bringing Theo back (if contract is up), or even a Jed Hoyer type.
To each his own, but I have been nervous about DD after seeing the Tigers system. They have studs now coming, but that wasn't Dombrowski's doing. Casey Mize is just a monster. I am sure a lot of people will disagree with me, which is fine of course...but to me a great organization doesn't sell out the future for today. So i'm hoping that's the Sox's main goal. Like I always tell my friends....No company would ever sell their soul for one quarter's earnings at the expense of the next 10 years!

And then the limitations he had after that made it very predictably hard to repeat and that got him fired? Joke. It's certainly the move of a team that's not used to losing. It's easier to put someone's head on the chopping block then having to play damage control. Sox fans tend to be rabid, and demand the best year after year which hurts. Not that its bad to want a good team, but if your burning a candle at both ends then you better have a whole lot of wax to refill (farm system in this case). I was never a Dombrowski fan so I'm fine with it, but I definitely don't disagree with what your saying. It kills me to see someone have to take the fall when it's not exactly deserved.

It's like the crybaby fans that expect championships every season are running the team now. What is with you and your condescending attitude? You don't know why he was fired any more than I do but you're using it as an excuse to bash Pedro and 67, which is quite tasteless.

Maybe this is a case of where Dombrowski and Henry and Werner didn't see eye to eye as to what the future of the Red Sox would look like. Maybe Henry and Werner didn't want to continue to spend big $ and Dombrowski wanted to rebuild on the fly? I mean, until we get some facts, and they will spill out soon enough, that's another possibility - a disagreement on the future direction of the Red Sox.

I have way more reasonable expectations because I'd never watch baseball ever if I didn't because it would be intolerable. I'll never bitch about the Red Sox not trying hard for the sole purpose because they aren't winning. Both of them have in the past week accused the Red Sox PLAYERS of not trying hard enough.

That's a bit weird? I was back in Boston for a vacation in the beginning of the summer and my buddy had the call in sports radio station on. Is it still WEEI? Some lady called up and was talking about how they needed to fire Dobrowski and I laughed, thinking, man they were like one of the best teams ever and won the world series... last year.

Talk about straight out of LF. He must have really run foul with Henry, folks like DD are typically allowed to resign, rather than straight up firing.
3 straight AL East titles and a WS. Cold business.
