They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

I had somehow missed that, on top of everything else, Juan Soto walked 108 times this year? No 20 year old should have that kind of control of the strike zone.

That's a big reason why I think he's going to be the best offensive player in baseball year in and year out very soon and for a long time. He's already got great control of the strike zone and as time moves on, he'll learn even more, things such as the individualized strike zones of umpires that he gains greater exposure to, so it's going to get to the point where he either walks or clobbers just about any pitch in the zone a pitcher throws to him. I'm very high on this kid (even if I just figured out that his name is Soto not Sosa thanks to Fenwaythehardway). Like I've said before - if he stays healthy and maintains his skills - bat speed, etc, this kid could conceivably hit 800 HRs in his career.

I had somehow missed that, on top of everything else, Juan Soto walked 108 times this year? No 20 year old should have that kind of control of the strike zone. Bryce Harper in his age 19 and 20 seasons was a 125 OPS+ hitter. At the time, this seemed like more or less full confirmation that the hype was real, the SI cover had been fully justified, etc, because of course we how rare and how significant it was to be an above average MLB player at that age. And now, not quite ten years later, Soto is a 140 OPS+ guy in the same age seasons and it seems kind of normal. Soto is not even clearly the most promising young player in that division. In the context of 2019, Harper still looks like a guy who was justified and totally successful number one pick, but his trajectory is much closer to the new norm for superstar talents. In other words, the thing that seemed so unique about Harper was actually a kind of a preview of what everyone would look like in a few years.

The biggest question is whether Dave Martinez is smart enough to be playing for a win over a certain pitcher achievement.

OMG, even the national announcers announce the pitcher rarity.
edit: about every 30 seconds
edit: every single sentence has to do with it.

Scherzer is freaking painting every edge of the zone with his fastball and slider. Watch out for the Nationals. Hope they win.

Effing Gardner. Good time to point out how much fun it is to see Gardner hit into a DP.

There's nothing more satisfying in baseball than seeing Gardner take 3 straight strikes that he thought were all balls but were all strikes.

That Torres HR isn't even out of Fenway. It was 343 feet. Unfortunately, unjuicing the ball isn't going to help a lot in these ridiculous ballparks.

if this series goes 7 games, they will have a better chance. Cole and Verlander should be able to get 3 wins. They need to sneak 1 from someone else on the staff. Tanaka pitched great tonight. not much you can do. need 4 to advance. they are fine, right now.

Everything goes their way in 2019.

Rays would have put up a better fight than the Astro’s.

I've had a bad feeling for awhile that this is going to be the Yankees' year. So far they're waltzing through the playoffs while Houston, which is the beter team, has been stumbling around. Good thing Glasnow was tipping his pitches in the first inning or else the Astros might not have even made it this far.
Meanwhile the Nats have looked great. Awesome starting pitching. They look like a better team than St. Louis. The Cards look like a team who blew their wad on that huge 10 run 1st inning in Game 5 NLDS.
The thing is though if they face the Yankees in the Series, they better have total shutdown starting pitching to win. I know one thing. Shutting down the Cardinals lineup would be much easier than shutting down the Yankees lineup. The Nats really only have two scary hitters in that lineup, Rendon and Soto. The rest of them can be pitched to.
I think if NY gets past Houston, they'll beat Washington. They'd kill St. Louis. I hate to say it, but unless Houston gets their act together, this season will only get worse.

361 foot home run for Urshela. This park is even worse than Yankee Stadium.
It's like a combination of Yankee's RF and Fenway's LF with a wall 1/3rd as high.
