2019-20 Boston Celtics Season

I don't think any of this is on Stevens by the way. I'm not even talking about the shooting, there were some bad effort on the glass, bad turnovers, slow passing, failure to execute any semblance of a plan early in the clock, slow closeouts, poor fastbreak attempts. The atrocious shooting is random and it's one of those things, but they played poorly on all levels. They played shook, plain and simple. They came to play, as in they showed good effort. They held the Raptors to 100 points, before this game the Celtics lowest point total in the bubble was 102. So the D was there overall, just horrible offense. Shooting comes and goes, but you rarely see what we just saw. Everyone being bad all at once. For me it's on Stevens not getting his guys ready mentally and doing a rather bad job at play calls. Like Kemba only getting 9 attempts, that's on the coach. I've never questioned this teams mental toughness before, yet even in the 2018 run they never had a loss like game three that I remember. It clearly had a massive effect. Steven's job is to have them ready and they clearly weren't. Nevermind the fact he keeps playing Grant Williams who single handed got Siakam going because he can't jump. Play Semi or Robert Williams both have looked better. Their athletic ability messes with the Raptors and they both give you more offense than Grant does. Stevens is a great coach, yet last game was like Bill in the Superbowl against the Eagles. He was clearly out coached and didn't have his guys ready to play. This game it was offense, the Superbowl it was D. It happens to even the best coaches. Yet don't give me this isn't on Stevens. This wasn't the Raptors were just that good, not even close. You can live with games like that.

His job is to get his players ready and they clearly weren't. This wasn't just some off night, not when all four of your scorers go 5-29 for 17.2% from deep. One guy, two, heck three guys having off night can happen. All four and they way they played isn't some off night, their heads weren't in the game. They couldn't get over blowing what should have been a 3-0 lead. Call it a learning lesson for our coach if you want, given this hasn't really happened to his teams before. Yet whatever he did sure didn't work and he needs to adjust or we are going home in two more games. Everyone has sighted the bad Raptors three point shooting, yet they never came close to that bad. We win that game if we shoot even 25%, which is comical.

I think it is a major assumption that Brad is the reason the team shot poorly. They had plenty of open looks. They didn’t make them. Unless you have some information the rest of us don’t have, you blaming Stevens seems rather arbitrary.

Unless you have some information the rest of us don’t have, you blaming Stevens seems rather arbitrary. The way you look at it, it's never the coach. For me a coaches job is to get the players ready. Forget last game and onto the next as Bill would say. It's the coaches job to get his players mentally tough. I never questioned that till last game, which comes after the worst loss of those guys career. Maybe Stevens needs to show a little fire, flip out on his guys, drop a few F bombs. They needed something more than they got. Maybe have an elite scorer like Walker take more than 9 FGA? They had arguably their worst offensive game of the year and you think the coach doesn't deserve any blame?

They had arguably their worst offensive game of the year and you think the coach doesn't deserve any blame? Yeah but you hire and continue to employ Stevens knowing full well what kind of coach he is. He is not going to go on a Mike Singletary rampage and show the team his ass at halftime, he's not that macho motivator. If you want to go up with blame, shouldn't it go all the way up to the ownership? Point is, team played shook. Dealing with that is not Brad's forte. Guys need to be clear that there isn't anything to fear but fear itself. Maybe they could have Danny lecture them about life on the streets growing up, Danny had a badass upbringing. Point is (again), the looks were there. The X's and O's worked and guys didn't deliver. It's unfair to pin that on Brad. Why did Brown forget how to shoot? Why can't Tatum dribble anymore all of the sudden? Why did Kemba shy away from the ball? Some of it is on Brad, like I agree that Grant is a poor matchup for this series. But there's PLENTY of blame to go around and to single that on one guy is unfair.

I’m very confused - you started this post by saying they came to play and finished by saying they weren’t ready to play. They were ready physically, not mentally. Effort is a mentality. Not being physically ready would be them being out of shape or injured. At this point, physical readiness isn’t a concern unless there’s an injury. I guess you could say defensively they had a good game plan but offensively they didn’t... again I didn’t see the game - just didn’t understand the post.

You say they played shook, it was the whole team so yeah Stevens deserve blame. If it was just one guy like Brown I'd call him out, yet it was the whole team. Fair or not that's on the coach. I don't think he needs to go to extremes, yet a little fire wouldn't hurt. It would likely shock the players and could have been just what they needed. Sometimes little things can get a team going. Coach going off on a non call getting a technical. I love Stevens, he's a great coach, yet maybe he needs to add a little something to his style. If that isn't Stevens forte maybe he needs to work on that.

It's really hard to describe what that was if you didn't watch it. I'm likely not doing a good job, yet it's something we also haven't seen all year long.

But that's the thing, he's not a statue out there, you see him communicating with guys all the time. I think last game was a terrible performance and he deserves as much blame as literally everyone involved. He's equally to blame as Jayson Tatum, Kemba, Smart, heck even Semi. Top to bottom, it was a sh*t execution. We'll see if they show up a bit more lively tonight.

Oh look, the refs are trying to rig this game to get Toronto back in it.

Semi sucks. Wish Grant or Romeo were playing his minutes He’s had so many chances and just doesn’t bring enough to the table. Somewhere along the way, they’re going to need some of these bench guys to make a play or two.

If that isn't Stevens forte maybe he needs to work on that. Did you see his eyes tonight man? I never saw Brad that fired up. He didn't want to win, he wanted to MURDER the Raptors. What a defensive MASTERCLASS tonight by everyone, game was over on the Brown dunk over OG and yet they didn't let up (well until the game was out of reach anyway). Just kept pounding. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Theis and Smart were on this one. Deliver again one more time please.

We needed a statement game, lets finish it next time. I've definitely been overly harsh on Brad but glad to see that energy from him. Also glad he hit Jaylens 3s for him too.

They better finish this off in game 6. Agreed, you don't want a game 7 against a "live by the 3, die by the 3" team.
