The Cole situation with the Yankees is a bit odd seeing as multiple Yankees have ripped the Astros players in very harsh terms. Lucky for Cole he is in New York because if he was in Boston the press would be hounding him like a pack of rabid dogs.

Also, Mike Trout is the man so let’s not talk crap about him. Respect the hell out of that guy. I’m actually surprise he even spoke up. He normally keeps to himself much to the chagrin of MLB. He’s arguably the best player to ever put on a uniform and he’s not all that marketable because he keeps quiet and doesn’t like being in advertisements and just wants to live his life. Just to be clear, I didn't mean Trout.

Cole is also leaving the Astros ball doctoring program or whatever the hell they are doing to drastically increase spin rates If he’s Pittsburgh Cole then that’s just a very good pitcher, not an elite pitcher. And they will be in a bad place Could be a good year to be Jays or Rays fan. Or a fan of the team that projects to be much better than the Jays and only 2 games worse than the Rays, and to make the 2nd wild card spot.

How'd they project last year? They're fringe contenders for a wild card spot at best. They could easily finish 4th and under .500 as easily as they could get the Wild Card. The lineup isn't extremely deep, the starting pitching is shaky at best and very reliant on a vintage and healthy Chris Sale and a resurgent Nate Eovaldi, and the bullpen has a lot of question marks attached to it. If a lot breaks right then they could grab the wild card. If things go wrong, they could free fall. Flip a coin.

Or they could just play the game and see how these pretty good players actually perform: Sale, ERod, Eovaldi, Workman, Barnes, Darwinzon, Taylor, Walden, Hembree, Vasquez, Moreland, Dalbec, Chavis, Peraza, Devers, Bogaerts, Beni, JBJ, Pillar, Verdugo, Martinez, and some surprises. Even with potential for injuries, this is a really, really good team and we have no idea how well they do. Assuming the Rotation or Bullpen will fail seems silly. This Is not a weak group. It is a strong and largely proven group of players. it’s spring where hope springs eternal, etc. Baseball is here and it is wonderful.

That's what projecting as a wildcard contender is.

Actually sorry for the kid. No one wants to see that happen. As bad, when we beat the Yanks for the pennant they'll have that ready for their excuse. Maddening.

Not unhappy for Cashman's Yanks. Unhappy for Severino. October starters looking a bit more vulnerable.

Having a young stud pitcher shouldn’t be this frequently heartbreaking.

Is a perfect example why early extensions aren't always bad for the Player. His four year 40 million deal with one option year looked like a steal. Now he basically won't play for first 2.5 years of it.

Dodgers designated Yadier Alvarez for assignment. Spent much of last season on the restricted list for multiple unexcused absences but was formerly held in really high regard as a prospect.

The reported new money of 7 years and $187.25 Mil seems on the light side. That’s $26.75 Mil per year AAV. Seems like a bargain when Betts wants close to $40 Mil per.

For those that don't get to off topic, here's a nine part baseball fix: Ken Burns @kenburns · 1h With events canceled & so much closed, I asked @pbs to stream BASEBALL for free so we can participate in the national pastime together. Watch at the link below or on any streaming device. And please look out for those with greater needs. Play ball. @mlb pbs.org/show/baseball/

www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28985240/aj-hinch-jeff-luhnow-suspensions-fulfilled-2020-even-season-canceledLuhnow and Hinch's suspensions will not toll into next season if the 2020 season is cancelled. Cora's suspension had better be treated in the same manner, although I suspect his suspension will be for more than 1 season. MLB's completed their investigation but based on the current environment it would be a little tone deaf to release it now but that shouldn't negatively impact Cora more than he's going to get whacked anyway.
