Blake Treinen non-tendered by Oakland, Kevin Gausman non-tendered by Cincinnati. Definitely some intriguing talent out there. Oh, and old friend Travis Shaw non-tendered by the Brewers. Jimmy Nelson non-tendered as well. Certainly worth a look.

Tijuan Walker was non-tendered by Arizona. Don't know his health status as he has missed most of the past two seasons, but he might definitely be worth a look for the Red Sox. Wouldn't mind him either. He made bit over 5m last year and has 2y left of control. Whoever has him will have to work with rebuilding his arm strength at the 5m figure back into the mid 90's starting pitcher he was at a fairly high amount if he's claimed. The guy used to watch with Seattle was worth it, but that is a few years removed and Boston is now in cut salary mode. I'd give him a try over some soft tosser like Chacin in a second tho.

Both Walker and Nelson are intriguing options as 5th starters with some upside. I was high on Walker before the AZ trade; not sure how his stuff rebounds but he was looking like a 2/3 for a couple of years there, with maybe 1a upside. Nelson is older but seemed to have similar ceiling. And Treinen...tough NT after an incredible ‘18. Lots of talent out there.

And Treinen...tough NT after an incredible ‘18. There's guys who are hard to evaluate, and then there's guys like Treinen who make you question what the point of even trying is.

Yeah I'm still confused by the Osich non tender myself. They picked him up on waivers less than a month ago, then they non tender him. Nothing changed between now and then.
Do they think they have a better shot of resigning him if they non tendered him themselves? Am I missing something here?
I've also read that the Sox might resign Marco. Are they also that penny wise to save a couple of hundred thousand dollars with the payroll if that's the case? The difference between the 700 thousand dollar arbitration number and the 300-400 thousand dollar minor league deal isn't that much, but it might show everyone how closely the Sox are watching their budget this year.

I mean was Leon so obvious of a move. I knew the salary doesn’t fit the position or person. I mean he didn’t even improve in my eyes.

Is it not possible that they could've claimed Osich thinking they could sign him to a deal before Arb? When that didn't happen, they didn't tender him an offer.
In other words, it's possible they were hoping to sign him to a deal less than what he could've gotten arb. Didn't work out.

What changed is Brian Johnson cleared waivers and they still have him as lhp depth, if he'd been claimed, they might not have non-tendered Osich

I don't see how Brian Johnson is even related to this. The Sox already have enough (two) LH relievers to cover depth in the bullpen to the suggested post above this one. Brian Johnson was probably going through waivers regardless.

Went over many of the waived last evening and lefty Caleb Frare caught my eye. mid 90's FB and slider. 2 options left, 26YO and was decent his MiLB career until handful of innings in the bigs 2019. Can't hurt to take a look in ST.

Interesting on Bradley. I honestly came around on the idea of non-tender, and I think they'll have a hard time trading him for value at $11m. Unless someone thinks they can soften the offensive valleys. If you want to be optimistic, you could say it's a sign that getting under the cap isn't as urgent a priority for the Sox as some have feared. I think it means that there are two or more teams that will offer more than the equivalent of Adenys Bautista.

They probably had a price they were willing to pay, it wasn't enough for Osich to sign, so they non-tendered him. I think something like that probably played out with Thornburg last year, when he signed for less than the MLBTR estimate on non-tender day.

Hey everybody; I'm wondering if there is anybody who stands out that got non tendered & if you think the Sox should try to sign him.
For me it's Kevin Gausman & I wonder if he isn't a better fit in the pen than as a SP. I wonder what he'll end up signing for.

Both Hernandez and Osich back on split contracts. Smart. They only save about $200k on the MLB portion of the salaries, but they'll save way more if/when either are in AAA.
Smart moves around the edges of the roster. Whatta concept.

It's also very hard to not see them trading Hembree now. And the penny-pinching makes it more credible that they get under the tax limit without trading JDM as well as JBJ, by doing something rad like restructuring Price's contract ... although I'm not sure whether that's a good idea.
