Heck, his 5.7 mil arb projection might scare them enough. So why not ask !! Casas and Duran or Jimenez may be a conversation starter. Maybe a top 30 pitcher, but until we develop some arms that become big league starters again, I do not think the industry will buy the hype.

Chavis for Trey Mancini - I think it takes more but I’ll throw this out there for all to haggle over Dominic Smith could be a less expensive commodity. He’s younger and has demonstrated good power at the ML level. Chavis in exchange seems reasonable. For Mancini you might have to add.

The Red Sox were hesitant to add $4 million for Shaw as I read they would have had to make a trade just to free up $4 million. They're not trading for Trey Mancini.
They need all of the minimum wage talent they can get - like Chavis, although yeah, I'd seriously consider trading him for Dominic Smith.
Still, I think they'll hang onto Chavis. He should be able to smack 25 HRs if he stays healthy enough. I think he should be able to be near league average anyways.
Maybe they go after Mancini in 2021, but it won't be this year. They're going to subtracting, not adding. And whoever they do add will be minimum wage.

Mancini has actually had a better than league average K rate the last couple years, which with his power puts him in a tier above your sorta Cron/Smoak/etc DFA fodder guys. With the budget situation right now I don't see it happening, but if they do manage to resolve that issue somehow, Mancini is an interesting target, maybe even as a JDM replacement

Smoak has been better 2 out of the last three years. With the glut of guys like him that will cost very little I'm not trading for Mancini. Maybe if he wasn't horrible on D, but he is.

I like the idea of trading for Mancini to play first base. Keep everybody and go for it! He is going to be 28 and is cheap, only first year arbitration. But does it really have to be Chavis or can it be a couple of prospects who are a few years away from helping the team win now? Would the Orioles be interested? Vazquez, Mancini, Chavis, Bogaerts, Devers , Benintendi, Bradley, Betts, Martinez - Sale, Price, Eovaldi, Rodriguez. I think that team can compete for the division with the Yankees & Rays.

Not to burst your bubble, but 1) Mancini has never played 1b, 2) it really would be the best prospects/young players the Red Sox have to offer. That's how trades work for established players, and 3) the Red Sox made it clear that they're not going to keep everybody and go for it. Reality check: the Red Sox will be making trades to get under that luxury tax one way or the other. If it was just: keep everybody and go for it! - then Dave Dombrowski would still be GM. The fact that they fired him and hired a TB guy from an organization that's best known for getting talent on the cheap, they're obviously not planning on hanging on to everyone - Rick Porcello found that out and soon Brock Holt will too, perhaps even Moreland as well. The bottom line is that penciling Price into next year's rotation makes little sense. Also, the reality is that the Sox couldn't even offer Travis Shaw a $4 million deal without looking to move money first. The Red Sox are looking to lop off at least 30 million this season. That's the reality. The rest is just daydreaming. The Sox have been crystal clear about their intentions.

He's just a bad defender wherever he plays. His best position is DH, basically.
