Just looking at this video it looks like he was getting swings and misses on all his pitches and looked comfortable throwing all of them. That's just......outstanding.

Does perales get protected from rule 5? I'd have to think there's a good chance. His fastball looks like it'd be an alright pitch in the majors already. A team could pretty easily stick him in the pen for a year and take the risk/reward play on him it seems.

I feel like, because of his pending rule 5 status, and the way he's been dominating, they have to be aggressive with him.

Perales' stance/build remind me of Boston native Manny Delcarmen.

I hate having to put him on the 40 next year. It doesn't serve him well and isn't good for the team. But I love the progress and hope he can continue on a Bello path.
I worry the whole International-signing Rule 5 years will never be changed because it's a second piece of leverage that the players would have to give up as part of an international draft.

Eh, I think you're overthinking it. Next year he gets to Portland. 2025 he gets to Worcester. 2026 he'll debut. Plus he seems like a guy who might get a 4th option. Would need to see if he got 90 days last year.

Not to derail the thread but the R5 eligibility needs to get pushed back a year.

They won't do a blanket push back. College players are far different from 16 year olds from Latin America (and even high school grads).

We're going to have to get another couple years out before the effects of losing a season of development for every player while the year still counts for Rule 5 and MLFA for things to get back to normal. If Perales had been able to pitch in 2020, he's probably in Portland right now.

They probably should have given everyone an extra year like the NCAA did with eligibility (although the Red Sox made out like bandits with Whitlock going into 2021 so maybe I should shut up).

I don't think Tony Clark would approve this message.
