Moved the Kelly stuff out of this thread which is for prospects and he's definitely not a prospect.

We're starting to get a feel for the contours of what will likely be a very different training environment in the future. The ability to get players, even relatively young ones such as Casas, on an "even" playing field with others who've been in the system longer allows for comparison shopping when it comes to skillsets. That's evident from McMillon's take on guys. Here's the thoughts he and Abbott had on Seabold from an earlier Globe article.

www.radio.com/weei/sports/red-sox/now-what-for-tanner-houck-the-red-sox-pitcher-has-a-planUsually we have to wait until Spring Training to get a story about the off season crazy fitness routine of player x. This is article highlights that Tanner Houck is in Jupiter, FL working out with a diverse group of pitchers. Some of the good stuff... “He's in there six days a week and he has fit in really well with the group. He's young. You don't realize it. We have an interesting culture. We have a lot of veteran guys and we have a lot of up-and-coming prospects and he definitely converges more to the younger guys.”
That run of 17 innings during which he gave up just one earned run was nice. But the Red Sox rookie knew he needed to peel back his next layer. This was the way to do it.
Four days a week working on his body. Two more focusing on mobility and balance. And all the while integrating the throwing side of things with Kaplan. What worked? What didn’t? Where can he go from here?

Good reports on physical progress of Tyler Esplin, Jordan, Casas, Bryan Bello, Brendan Cellucci, and Feltman, who should get a bump up in the rankings here after the powers that be read the article.
Positive words for Jordan and Grullon defense. Crockett's min-scouting report on Liu.
Two mentions of SoxProspects, too (including one of Ian).

I moved some discussion about Roger Moret to the "Where are they now?" thread. Remember that this thread shouldn't be used for discussion and should be limited to links about currently players only. Thanks!

theathletic.com/2301411/2021/01/08/bowden-underrated-prospects-30-mlb-teams?source=user-shared-articleBoston Red Sox Aldo Ramirez, RHP Age: 19 B: R T: R HT: 6-0 WT: 180 Scouting grades: FB: 60 CB: 55 CH: 50 CTL: 50 CMND: 45 Ramirez performed well in the New York/Penn League in 2019 as an 18-year-old, as shown by his 63 strikeouts and 16 walks in 61.2 innings. However, he was noticeably stronger this year in instructional league, with his fastball up to 96 mph with riding life. He’s a physical, athletic pitcher with a repeatable delivery and a three-pitch mix that includes a fastball, curveball and changeup. He profiles as a future mid-rotation-type starter.

Fangraphs: Enrique Hernández’s Unique Skillset Heads to Boston by Tony Wolf "If you simply want to add a veteran with loads of postseason experience to your clubhouse, consider Hernández. It is impossible not to find a use for one of the few players who can play every position in the field (minus catcher) and whose asking price is modest enough that even Pittsburgh could afford it. The only question is whether Hernández will hit." link

Fangraphs: Adam Ottavino Heads to Boston in Unusual Cross-Rival Trade by Dan Szymborski "Another thing to take into consideration is that Ottavino was tinkering with his repertoire and spent some of the spring working on a changeup that he didn’t actually use in the regular season. 'I’ve been throwing a changeup all spring,' he said. 'Who knows how much I’ll use it in the season, but I’ve been throwing it, trying to get comfortable with it. I’ve also been throwing my four-seamer again a little bit more. I’m not sure how much I’m going to use that either, but I’m trying to add a couple of weapons to the tool chest. You never know when you’re going to need them and maybe it’ll help me when we get to the playoffs again.' In the end, Ottavino was a very sinker-and-slider pitcher in 2020, largely also missing the usual cutter that, while never an out pitch, provided something “between” the other two pitches." link

A Conversation With Red Sox Top Prospect Jeter Downs by David Laurila "Laurila: Eric Longenhagen wrote that you punish pitches down in the zone, but that you could be susceptible to getting tied up by velocity in on your hands. Do you agree with that? Downs: “Not really. If I get tied up, it’s because I’m looking for a certain pitch, I wouldn’t say it’s because of my swing or my hands. People get jammed, and get tied up, but… and this is my opinion of my swing: If I’m ready for it, I’m going to get to 100 [mph] up and in. So I wouldn’t say that’s a weakness. I’ve hit 100, both in and out, so I’m capable of doing that. But for the most part, no hitter is setting up to hit that pitch."
