Gotta think that Cora being fired is on the table at this point.

Just let catchers and pitchers communicate electronically at this point and all of this goes away. It's so dumb this is an issue.

If cora missed 50+ games, why keep him around on a transitioning team?

Because he can coach the other 110 games and then coach next year and the year after and the year after You are quite literally the only person I’ve seen suggesting this

Cora should be fired for the way he prepared the team during the spring to open the season in 2019, especially & specifically the pitching staff. This controversy is adding to the reasons why he should be fired.

The Athletic articles kind of reads like it's someone with some liability trying to get ahead of the story. Saying that everyone was doing this, the Red Sox didn't cross the same red line that the Astros did, and that it's dumb to have these rules that MLB can't enforce.
I agree with fenwaydouble that MLB should take all of this out of the game by using technology to make it easy to securely call pitches.

Rosenthal and Drellich wrote the story linking the 2018 Boston Red Sox to the sign stealing scandal. Why would 3 people (doesn't specify if players, coach and/or management) who were with the 2018 Boston Red Sox (and possibly no longer with the organization) talk to reporters about the use of the video replay room to steal signs? Why would anyone who was not part of the MLB investigation of the Astros speak to reporters?

Here are my 10 thoughts...
1. I'm sure it is true, and I'd bet every major league team is doing something similarly shiesty. 2. I don't like when articles are written based on un-named sources. 3. My first suspects are Pomeranz, Carson Smith, and Steven Wright. It's definitely a pitcher. 4. This is going to hurt, Manfred is going to have to come down on us harder even than the Astros because of the 17 Watch Debacle. 5. Cora is possibly going to find himself suspended from the game for a period of time. 6. The only way to prevent this is to ban all in-game access to video 7. I'm still not certain the gain is more psychological than actual tangible. 8. I would not be shocked if Pedroia played a large role when he was around the club. 9. I worry this makes it harder for the team to focus on the task at hand the next few weeks regarding the roster construction. 10. I sure hope the next expose is on the Yankees, just so I don't have to listen to those Bronx Buffoons and their incessant chants ad nauseum.

Maybe if the sources don't talk, then this article comes out in a week with a lot of quotes saying what an outrage this is and how MLB needs extremely harsh penalties etc.

Two things for sure. This does not look well on the Red Sox organization and of course the general fan will link it to the Patriots as a larger problem even though they have no link other than geography. Second, this will not help the Red Sox farm system improve as a second offense will hurt one or both of the international and amateur draft in addition to other penalties.

The league issued a statement on the current accusations made against the Red Sox:
The Commissioner made clear in a September 15, 2017 memorandum to clubs how seriously he would take any future violation of the regulations regarding use of electronic equipment or the inappropriate use of the video replay room. Given these allegations, MLB will commence an investigation into this matter.www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2020/01/07/red-sox-sign-stealing-2018-allegations

I guess the only cheating scandals Henry will try to get clicks on are over at 1 Patriot Place.

How can one use a video replay room illegally? Gosh, another Boston team about to lose draft picks. Wonderful.

Yeah I'm personally sick of this crap and yeah I'm disappointed in Cora for introducing it further into the organization when the Sox already got punished for the apple watch thing. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. I hope Cora gets suspended now. He deserves it. You know he brought this from the Astros organization and thought it would be a good idea.

The article suggests they were doing this before Cora got there, and probably most if not all contending teams were doing something like this.

How did they do this before Cora got here when the headline explicitly reads- "Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018." Yeah of course a lot of teams were doing this. The Sox should have known better after getting punished the first time.
