Mears joining Haviland on the Bannister Memorial Pitch Design Staff is interesting. Mike Rikard described him as someone who really knows pitchers on our podcast. He's the one who pushed all his chips in on Ward then Murphy as guys the org needed to draft. He also is spoken of very positively in Alex's book, and I unrelatedly had a friend who's with another org sing his praises as a smart guy this offseason. We'll see if that carries over to the player dev side.

I've been calling for this for a while now: Also new to the Portland staff is Hitting Coach Lance Zawadzki, who joined the organization in 2018 with Lowell before serving as Salem’s hitting coach in 2019. Entering his fifth season in the Red Sox’ system,  I expect this to have a positive effect on Duran and Wilson in particular. . . . Joining the PawSox staff and entering his 10th season in the Red Sox organization is Pitching Coach Paul Abbott, who previously served in that same capacity for Double-A Portland (2018-19), High-A Salem (2015-17), Single-A Greenville (2013-14), and Short-A Lowell (2011-12).That's my favorite pitching coach. |
