Bleis has the whip action going with the bat. That swing reminds me of BJ Upton's, and he already has the same physical profile. Hopefully the contact rate will be better than Upton's. This is what I saw as well! Funny that you mention BJ Upton because that is exactly what I was saying to myself when watching his video. Part of me was thinking I saw a good amount of Alfonso Soriano swing in there as well. They obviously don't have the same mechanics, but swing seemed similar. Not that it would be a bad thing, but just saying it reminded me of him.

A few other notes: The period runs through December 15, 2021, effectively delaying the following signing period. This also could end up being the last signing period since they'll be negotiating a new CBA after the end of the 2021 season and an international draft will most likely be part of those discussions. Bonus pool for the 2020-2021 signing period is $5,348,100. Bonus pool $ cannot be traded. www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-21-mlb-international-bonus-pools/ADD: a few more points: The current period was extended until October 15, 2020, however, teams cannot currently sign any international players. The implications of pushing the signing period is still unresolved for Rule 5 purposes.

Is he linked to the Sox?

Pretty sure he was one of the 5 listed as expected Sox signings.

Isn't the Colorado money on this year, not next ? That is correct. They have exactly one month left to spend that $$.

Of course, if they had guys they'd wanted to sign in the 2020-21 period who had already been old enough to sign in the previous period (happens), they could use that money to bring in those players during the 2019-20 period instead.

I was just thinking that if they made the trade that way, they likely had something specific in mind so, I was expecting an almost immediate signing. Not a big deal, I'm guessing they won't just let it go unused.

It also says he'll be eligable for free agency on January 15th and that there are quite a few teams in the mix. They mention that the signing bonus might go to one million.

A small update on Pino who appears to be leaning toward signing this January:

Would like to see Red Sox invest in athletic right-handed outfielders with potential for above average loft power to take advantage of the green monster. Pino seems to have a balanced swing with good lower body leverage and hip torque.

I'm all mixed up with the international money. Is this a new period, do the sox have money? We are currently in a dead period where no signings are allowed. The start of the 2020-21 period got moved from July 2, 2020 to January 15, 2021 and will run to December 15, 2021 (technically just a 2021 period now). The Red Sox have a pool of $5,348,100, which is hard capped and no teams can trade for additional $$.

Just wanted to see if I could get a little excited for some of these Jan 15 guys.

And based on what's been reported, we think the Red Sox have roughly $3.25M committed to their top three signings, so they have no more than $2 million or so remaining, some chunk of which must also be spoken for and we just don't know yet.

Fangraphs/Logenhagen updated their international list for the upcoming period. Unlike other lists, he includes prospects coming from the KBO/NPB (including those over 25). His write-up is fairly thoughtful and discusses the challenges from the change in signing period: blogs.fangraphs.com/presenting-an-updated-international-prospect-list/He has Miguel Bleis at #33, but if you take out the KBO/NPB players he'd be #20. The quick blurb says: "Bleis is a righty corner outfield power projection prospect with a whippy, low-ball swing and room for about 30 pounds on his frame."
