It appears that if there are games this year, they will take place in Arizona only:
(I have seen other similar comments).

Was going to write something about McMahon.. Thought 1 of them was friends with Trump and also think he might have been on TV few times during those cartoon shows with old Vince?? Opening up the state to all sports might have been an opening salvo to try and lure potential MLB games here and not a dunce move as that lefty rag daily kos insinuates. Anything in it needs to be taken with a pound of salt to begin with imo. Don't know about kos. I saw the reference to DeSantis' addendum on several sources but somehow couldn't copy and paste until I got to this. One would think that movie theaters are "essential"... on DeSantis' reasoning....altho it seems that they are closed in this locale. I see that Manfred has stated that there won't be baseball until it's safe for players and fans. That's logical but seems like 'forever' off...given the projected timeline for vaccine deployment.

I'm sure that the 18.5 million dollar donation the same day had nothing to do with opening up...Maybe the theaters can take up a collection. April 9th: Linda McMahon announced that her Presidential Super PAC will spend $18.5 million in Tampa and Orlando, Florida. April 10th: Reports broke of Vince McMahon deciding to go live. www.givemesport.com/1562668-wwe-news-linda-mcmahon-made-political-donation-of-20m-same-day-wwe-declared-essential

Ditto here in Lakeland on the theaters. Sidewalks are pretty much rolled up, as they were 50y ago on Sunday around here daily now in town. Who would have ever thunk this??

Man, I miss Baseball & a Red Sox game to watch every night. I miss Sports period. I can’t believe I’m actually looking forward to the NFL draft broadcast, the ratings will probably be through the roof.
Stay safe

Ditto here in Lakeland on the theaters. Sidewalks are pretty much rolled up, as they were 50y ago on Sunday around here daily now in town. Who would have ever thunk this?? There were quite a few people who thought about it, and talked about it, not all of them hidden away in academia and disguised as epidemiologists either. There's been a lot of silly stuff published such as "The man who saw the pandemic coming" as if there was one well-informed observer. It is the internet after all and buzz is the operative word. Years back, I read Hans Zinsser's alternately hilarious and gut-wrenching account of how typhus stopped armies in their tracks over and over again. His Rats, Lice and History - a look at how disease has been a real driver of change - is timeless as we are learning to our dismay. Over my career working at science lab, I came across many references to past pandemics and the likelihood of future episodes. It's very difficult for societies to get ahead of a curve that they only bump up against every century or so. There were early warning signs with SARS and MERS. The countries forced to deal with those two have been the best prepared to deal with this one. No surprise there. The US, on the other hand, systematically de-funded public health and did away with the organizational structure needed at the federal level to coordinate a response. We are paying for that now. Past convulsions have had the effect of re-working the societies they burned through. This one will be no different. Supply chains and the maze of a health system we have come to mind for starters. I'm sure there will be many other ways things will change.

The only certainties here are that recovery will be a long process and there will be change, significant change. How that changes baseball is pretty much guesswork and wishful thinking at this point.

My worries are that if it's not easy and pretty much painless that there will be major problems ahead. I've seen a future split of this country coming for years, whether this episode described is the decider or not remains to be seen, but it is already more divided now that at any other time within my lifetime. Eventually something will have to happen with both sides deciding they can not coexist under 1 "flag" together.

Maybe everyone already knows this but baseball is back in Taiwan:
Also there's a fan Twitter account with some occasional commentary

The Hardball Times is gone (for now), and Fangraphs is on the ropes. They've lost 70% of their traffic with MLB closing down, and they're looking for any help they can get. I've got a friend who loves baseball and I'm thinking of getting him a subscription to help things along. Anyone so inclined might want to look into that.

It will definitely change how we look at things. If true, we're likely to be less divided.

Where I live the farmers are working (farm equipment all over the roads) like crazy. Had a interesting conversation with a Pioneer seed person (scientist?) who told me that the Wuhan virus disrupts the function of hemoglobin molecules by altering the valence of the Fe (iron) molecule, thereby rendering it unable to transfer O2 throughout the body. Seems like a tough nut to crack regarding a fix. (vaccine). Also seems like this virus was engineered and not the product of a wet market. I miss baseball. I think (hope) Manfred will have a very short season followed by an extended playoff.

Question though, why on Earth would the US Embassy in Beijing even be aware of a lab 700 miles away in a closed country ?

Again, this is veering into the off-topic discussion thread....not one related to baseball.

The off-topic discussion thread got shut down because it was too off-topic. In my neighborhood they closed the parks, which seems dumb because people have to be able to be out in the fresh air somewhere. If you don't let people go to the parks, they'll go somewhere else that they're more likely to be in close proximity to other people. Gotta leave the pressure valves open, in parks as in threads...
